Registered Nurse/Surgical Stepdown RN

7 South - Post-Surgical: Abdominal/Colorectal

Start Date

Please submit for one of the following orientation dates:


10/05/2026, 10/19/2026, 11/02/2026, 11/16/2026, 11/30/2026.


Orientation will be bi-weekly with 2-3 travelers per unit for each start date. Flexibility is required as travelers may be moved to different start dates based on the orientation class size.

Contract Length

This position is posted for 26 weeks, with a preference for longer contracts ranging from 26 to 51 weeks. If interested in a shorter 13-week contract, please indicate at the time of submission for consideration on a case-by-case basis.

Shift Details

• 12 Hour Shifts
• 36 hours guaranteed per week
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Holiday Rotation: 1 holiday off may be requested; includes 2 federal holidays per year, 1 spring holiday, and 2 winter non-essential holidays.

Float Requirements

Travelers may float to other post-surgical floors and other med-surg inpatient floors as needed.

Certifications and License

• AHA BLS certification required at the time of submission.
• Active KS or Multistate RN license is required; no hits allowed, no exceptions.
• All required certifications and licensure must be submitted during application.

Education and Experience

• ADN or BSN required.
• Minimum 1 year of progressive care or step-down experience is required.

Charting System

Experience with Epic is preferred (testing out option available).

Unit Overview

This is a 32-bed unit that specializes in caring for patients undergoing:

• Colorectal surgeries (colectomy, bowel resection, ostomy, hernia repair)
• Urological procedures (TURP, kidney stones, prostatectomy)
• Orthopedic surgeries (hip fractures, ankle fractures, amputations)
• Plastic surgeries (debridements)
• Specialty wound care & surgical drains

Staffing Ratios

The standard staffing ratio is 1:6.

Navy.

Jewelry and Body Adornment Policy

Visible tattoos are permitted as long as they are not offensive or inappropriate for a professional setting. Piercings (facial/ear) are acceptable provided they do not interfere with job duties and maintain a professional appearance.

Vaccination Requirements

Immunity status for Hepatitis B, MMR, and Varicella (verified by titer) or proof of vaccination series completion is needed. TDaP and Influenza vaccines or exemption requests during flu season are required. TB documentation is mandatory.
