Unitrim Cement and Landscaping has provided Northern Illinois with dependable concrete, hardscaping, paving, and landscaping services for over 35 years. From stamped concrete patios and driveways to foundation work, we build outdoor spaces that last. We are looking for a reliable, hard-working Concrete General Laborer to join our crew in Belvidere. Pay is competitive at $25/hour+ based on your experience.

 

Position Summary

As a Concrete General Laborer, you will work on-site assisting with all phases of concrete prep, pouring, finishing support, and site cleanup. This is a physically demanding outdoor role best suited for someone dependable, punctual, and eager to work hard alongside an experienced team.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Site Preparation:
• • Dig, level, grade, and tamp soil/gravel sub-bases for driveways, patios, sidewalks, and foundations.
  • Assist with setting wooden or metal concrete forms, installing wire mesh, and placing rebar.
• Concrete Pouring & Placement:
• • Wheelbarrow wet concrete, operate concrete buggies, and place concrete according to crew directions.
  • Use shovels, rakes, and screeds to spread and level wet concrete evenly.
  • Assist finisher crews with stamped concrete, smooth troweling, or decorative finishes as needed.
• Site Maintenance & Cleanup:
• • Safely operate power tools (concrete saws, plate compactors, jackhammers) and hand tools.
  • Strip forms and strip/clean tools and equipment post-pour.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized job site before, during, and after project completion.
• General Labor & Support:
• • Assist with complementary landscaping, paving, or stone installation tasks as needed.
  • Load and unload trucks, trailers, and materials at the yard and on-site.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

• Physical Capability: Ability to perform heavy physical labor in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain). Must be able to lift 50–80+ lbs consistently.
• Experience: 3+ years prior construction or concrete experience is preferred, 
• Reliability: Reliable transportation to the main shop/job sites in Belvidere, IL, with a consistent track record of punctuality.
• Team Player: Ability to take direction well from job superintendents and work effectively within a crew.
• License: Class C Valid Driver's License is required  (CDL or ability to drive truck/trailer combinations is a major plus).
