Heavy Equipment MechanicBrent Scarbrough & Company Inc Newnan, GAHeavy Equipment MechanicJob Description| Service Department |Reports to Shop Manager | Hourly, Non-ExemptPosition SummaryDiagnose, adjust, repair, and overhaul heavy construction equipment in a shop environment — including excavators, bulldozers, motor graders, off-road and rigid-frame trucks, compactors, wheel loaders, rock crushers, conveyors, and other equipment used in heavy civil construction. Work spans mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, with all repairs documented in Clue, BSC's fleet management system. Shop runs 6:30 AM – 5:30 PM.Specialty and diagnostic tools provided — you furnish standard hand tools only.Paid technical training and a defined path to grow — lead tech, field service, or shop leadership.Full benefits: health, 401(k) with company match, PTO.Essential Job FunctionsOperate and inspect machines to diagnose defects; use computerized diagnostic and calibration equipment to determine required repairs.Repair or replace damaged and worn parts; adjust, maintain, and overhaul subassemblies such as transmissions, final drives, and undercarriage components using hand tools, jacks, hoists, and cranes.Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment safely using appropriate lifting equipment and rigging.Troubleshoot, repair, and rewire electrical systems.Test equipment after repair or assembly to verify performance against manufacturer specifications.Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges; fit bearings during repairs and overhauls.Read and interpret operating manuals, schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.Research and order parts for assigned repairs; support parts inventory accuracy.Document all work orders, labor hours, and parts usage accurately and same-day in Clue; maintain complete equipment service records.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; follow all BSC safety policies and lockout/tagout procedures.May direct helpers or apprentices assisting with assembly, disassembly, or parts cleaning.How We Measure Success (KPIs)Repair turnaround time — Work orders completed within target turn time — machines back up and earning, not waiting.Tech productivity — Wrench time vs. available time — hours charged to work orders ÷ total paid hours available × 100.Quality / comeback rate — Repairs done right the first time; rework and comebacks tracked against completed work orders.Same-day Clue documentation — Labor hours, parts usage, and repair notes logged complete and same-day on every work order.Safety and housekeeping — Zero preventable incidents; clean, organized bay maintained daily.Minimum RequirementsHigh school diploma or equivalent.3+ years of experience repairing heavy construction or agricultural equipment (diesel engines, hydraulics, drivetrains, and electrical systems), or equivalent combination of technical training and experience.A great attitude is non-negotiable — positive, team-first, and coachable, with pride in the work and the shop.Must furnish own hand tools appropriate to the trade (specialty and diagnostic tools provided by BSC).Valid driver's license with proof of insurability required.Overtime is a standard part of this role — consistent hours beyond 40/week are expected and available year-round, paid at time-and-a-half.Preferred QualificationsDiesel or heavy equipment technology certificate (technical college or OEM training program).OEM dealer or factory training experience (Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Volvo, or similar).EPA Section 609 certification for mobile A/C service and repair.Experience with fleet management or work order software.Required SkillsRepairing — Repairing machines and systems using the appropriate tools and methods.Troubleshooting — Determining causes of operating errors and deciding the correct repair path.Complex Problem Solving — Identifying complex problems, reviewing related information, and implementing solutions.Quality Control / Monitoring — Assessing the performance of equipment and one's own work to make improvements or take corrective action.Operation and Control — Controlling operations of equipment and systems safely.Communication — Conveying repair status, findings, and parts needs clearly to supervisors and coworkers, verbally and in Clue.Seniority level: AssociateEmployment type: Full-timeJob function: Customer ServiceIndustries: Construction and Civil EngineeringReferrals increase your chances of interviewing at Brent Scarbrough & Company Inc by 2xSee who you knowFeatured BenefitsMedical insuranceVision insuranceDental insurance401(k)Disability insurance
