Job Title: Machine Skilled Technician

Job Description

The Machine Skilled Technician plays a key role in the manufacturing process by operating, setting up, and maintaining high-speed production equipment. This position focuses on ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient machine performance through mechanical troubleshooting, preventive and reactive maintenance, and quality-focused operation. You will use your mechanical aptitude and technical skills to keep production lines running smoothly while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate various types of manufacturing equipment, including high-speed presses, assembly machines, metal stamping equipment, injection molding machines, and packaging equipment.
  • Ensure reliable operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by performing preventive maintenance on motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines.
  • Observe mechanical devices in operation, listen for unusual sounds, and use precision measuring and testing instruments to identify and locate sources of mechanical problems.
  • Inspect used parts and components with rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments to determine dimensional changes and wear.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments using appropriate hand and power tools to restore proper operation.
  • Perform mechanical troubleshooting on production equipment, identifying root causes and implementing effective repairs.
  • Conduct machine setup and changeovers, including configuring servo motors, drives, and related components for high-speed manufacturing operations.
  • Perform both preventive and reactive maintenance activities, including lubricating equipment, replacing like parts, and performing general machine upkeep.
  • Maintain and support high-speed conveyor systems, pumps, and other fast-moving equipment handling small parts.
  • Work with multiple operations and areas, including coating operations with several production zones, ensuring equipment readiness and uptime.
  • Use SAP or similar systems to support maintenance, production tracking, or equipment-related documentation as required.
  • Monitor and operate HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems to control and adjust machine settings during production.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following safety procedures, using required PPE, and adhering to housekeeping standards.
  • Handle products and components for quality inspections for a significant portion of the shift, ensuring that output meets quality standards.
  • Support safety, quality, and production goals by responding promptly to equipment issues and collaborating with team members.
  • Walk, stand, stoop, or bend for most or all of the shift as needed to operate, inspect, and maintain equipment.
  • Work with legacy metal equipment such as Bruderer presses and other specialized machinery used in the facility.

Essential Skills

  • 2+ years of mechanical experience working with production or manufacturing machinery.
  • Proven experience with mechanical troubleshooting, including identifying issues with gears, drives, pumps, conveyors, and related components.
  • Ability to perform machine setup and changeovers on high-speed manufacturing equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with preventive and corrective maintenance, including lubrication, part replacement, and general machine upkeep.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints to support mechanical repairs and machine adjustments.
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools and related equipment to repair and run fast-paced production machinery.
  • Experience working with pneumatics and hydraulics, including pneumatic cylinders and hydraulic systems.
  • Familiarity with conveyor systems, including installation, adjustment, and basic repair.
  • Ability to read and write, with basic knowledge of mathematics to support measurements and calculations.
  • Capability to handle product and components for quality inspections for up to 90% of the shift when required.
  • Physical ability to walk, stand, stoop, or bend for up to 100% of the shift.
  • Comfort working with multiple operations or areas simultaneously, such as several coating or production zones.
  • Willingness and ability to perform both operations (approximately 85% of the time) and preventive/reactive maintenance (approximately 15% of the time).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with SAP or similar systems for maintenance or production support.
  • Exposure to HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems for machine operation and control.
  • working with legacy metal equipment such as Bruderer presses.
  • Experience with pumps and fast conveyor systems handling small parts.
  • Familiarity with high-speed manufacturing environments and changeover processes.
  • Comfort working as a Tech 3 level or equivalent in a structured technician progression.
  • Strong initiative and willingness to learn new equipment and processes.
  • Ability to work effectively across 3 or more operations, including coating areas with multiple zones.

Work Environment

The facility offers a clean working environment, with some areas that are climate controlled to support comfort and consistent production quality. Technicians work within a structured level system, including Tech 1, Tech 2, and Tech 3 roles, with shift premiums available for second and third shifts. Typical shifts include a first shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a second shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with multiple openings across these schedules. The culture emphasizes strong, long-term leadership, with many members of management having extensive tenure, contributing to a stable and supportive environment. Personal protective equipment is required, including steel-toe footwear, ear protection, eye protection, long pants, and appropriate safety gear, reflecting a strong focus on safety and professionalism on the production floor.

This is a Contract position based out of Cleveland, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.50/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
