Terms of Employment: $1750 stipend

June Through June; in addition, commits two weeks over the summer and commits one-hour monthly meetings monthly

Job Summary:

The role includes planning and organizing practice sessions, providing academic guidance, and ensuring that team members are well-prepared for upcoming events. The Academic Team Lead collaborates with faculty to integrate academic goals, ensure team members' academic growth, and encourage teamwork and discipline. The individual in this role must exhibit leadership skills, subject matter expertise, and the ability to inspire and motivate students.

Job Goal:

The Academic Lead is responsible for directing, coordinating, and overseeing the functions of the Curriculum Committee within the Susquehanna Township School District. This role aims to provide faculty with expert guidance and support in their respective academic fields.

Instructional II certification

Essential Functions:

1. Improvement of Curriculum
2. Stay updated on new materials and equipment through workshops, publications, and conferences.
3. Write or oversee the creation of a planned course curriculum during the summer.
4. Review committee work throughout the school year.
5. Coordinate with other departments for curriculum alignment.
6. Ensure resource materials are aligned with the curriculum, culturally responsive, and relevant.
7. Review and recommend textbooks for adoption.
8. Plan and deliver professional development to support curriculum improvement.
9. Contribute to course placement for learners and the course selection guide at the high school.
10. Assistance with Instruction
11. Assist teachers in acquiring instructional materials.
12. Provide leadership in implementing innovative teaching techniques and materials.
13. Conduct demonstration lessons when requested.
14. Collaborate on the development and implementation of course overview/syllabus and student evaluation policies.
15. Coordinate activities between departments and grade levels.
16. Arrange peer observation opportunities for faculty members.
17. Orient new teachers or those new to STSD to the curriculum and resources.
18. Collaborate with administration to develop summer school programming for remediation and acceleration.

School Operation, Maintenance, and Planning:

1. Attend all Susquehanna Township Academic Lead meetings.
2. Organize and lead subject area and/or grade level meetings as needed.
3. Serve as a spokesperson for the subject area.
4. Facilitate communication within the subject area committee and faculty as necessary.
5. Submit monthly reports on activities and progress.
6. Undertake other assigned activities as directed by the administration.

Marginal Functions:

• Help organize fundraising activities to support team expenses (e.g., travel, supplies).
• Work with the school's administration to allocate or manage team budgets.
• Offer additional academic support to individual students outside of team meetings (e.g., tutoring or mentoring in specific subjects).
• Hold office hours or additional study sessions for struggling team members.
• Organize social events or team-building activities to strengthen the bond between team members.
• Create opportunities for students to engage in collaborative, non-competitive academic activities.
• Build relationships with other schools or academic teams to arrange joint practice sessions or competitions.
• Coordinate travel and logistics for inter-school competitions or events.
• Help create promotional materials (e.g., flyers, posters) to showcase the team's achievements.
• Represent the team at school events or in school newsletters, enhancing visibility and recognition.
• Participate in the recruitment of new team members by promoting the academic team to other students or hosting informational sessions.
• Support the school in identifying and encouraging potential students to join the academic team.
• Collect and analyze feedback from students, parents, and other stakeholders to suggest improvements to the team's operations.
• Review competition results and team performance to identify areas of growth for future participation.
• Step in as a substitute teacher or team leader, if necessary, due to scheduling conflicts or other leadership gaps.

Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

Qualified applicants will possess good oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, problem solving, and consultation and collaboration skills. Oral and written communication is required for sharing information with staff and parents. Computer processing and data entry are required for this position. Visual acuity and hearing are required for the delivery of assessment, intervention, and consultation services. Occasional lifting of materials and equipment of less than 25 pounds may be required. The ability to maintain emotional control under stress and work with multiple deadlines, a variety of people and personnel, and frequent interruptions is required.
