Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hours Hours per Shift: 48 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: - Experience in medical and surgical nursing - Skills in managing surgical and medical patients Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse in a medical surgical float unit. The unit accommodates a variety of patients including surgical and medical cases. Common surgical diagnoses include total joints, fractures, bariatric, urology, and general surgery. Common medical diagnoses include congestive heart failure, strokes, shortness of breath, and diabetic issues. Monitoring equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow devices. There is a telemetry system on this unit, with monitors for strip reading. Registered Nurses confirm the readings from monitor technicians. A charge nurse or house supervisor is not present in the unit. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5 during the day and 1:6 at night. Staffing includes nurse aids at a ratio of 1:15. Weekend work is required every other week, as well as holiday shifts every other year. There is a call or standby requirement associated with this position. Scrub color and dress code allow for any scrub color. Floating to other units may be necessary. Experience with titrating drips is not required for this role.
