City Of DuPont Police Officer The City of DuPont maintains a continual list of applicants for either Lateral or Exceptional Entry positions. Lateral - This position is a full-time non-exempt position with a base compensation of $39.55 – $45.59 (2024 pay scale, D.O.Q.) per hour, plus excellent benefits. To qualify, candidates must meet the following requirements: must be a U.S. citizen; must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a police officer, have worked as such for at least 24 months within the last 36 months serving in a City, County, or State police agency, and must have graduated from Basic Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA) through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC), or another state sanctioned general authority Washington State police academy (pursuant to RCW), or a full authority out-of-state police academy recognized by CJTC for equivalency. Exceptional Entry - This position is a full-time non-exempt position with a base compensation of $37.15 - $38.36 (2024 pay scale, D.O.Q.) per hour, plus excellent benefits. To qualify, candidates must meet the same requirements as a Lateral Police Officer, with the exception of time worked as a certified, general authority police officer. Current, sworn Police Officers who work full-time for another police agency, or have completed the Basic Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA) through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC) or another state sanctioned general authority Washington State police academy (pursuant to RCW), or a full authority out-or-state police academy recognized by CJTC for equivalency, but have worked for the agency less than 24 months, may be considered as an Exceptional Entry Level Police Officer candidate. Examples Of Duties Essential duties and responsibilities include: patrolling community to provide services to the public, enforce laws, including traffic laws, prevent crimes, protect life and property; investigating suspicious conditions or situations. Receiving citizen complaints, preparing accurate and complete reports on violations of City, State, and applicable Federal laws and accidents; making arrest, issuing citations; interviewing complainants, witnesses, suspects, victims; preserving crime scenes; collecting and preserving evidence. Preparing activity reports and logs; operating communication equipment such as telephones, teletypes and radios to receive and transmit information and dispatch personnel as needed. Serving warrants, subpoenas, juror summons, civil papers; assisting in apprehension of wanted subjects; appearing in court to present facts on cases including criminal, civil and juvenile cases; accompanying prisoners to court appearances as necessary. Attending classes and various training sessions in police procedures and new practices and methods. Assisting disabled motorist; providing escorts, providing direction to public; may be required to assist injured or disabled people with first aid administration. Assisting as assigned with public and school liaison programs such as crime prevention, drug abuse, bicycle safety, safety. Assisting other law enforcement agencies in investigative, information or tactical capacity. Typical Qualifications Minimum qualifications include: graduation from high school or GED, 21 years of age at time of appointment, free of felony convictions. Special requirements include: valid Washington State driver's license or verification of license by the start of employment. Successful completion of an approved law enforcement academy. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include: knowledge of State, County and City laws and ordinances; ability to operation and care of motor vehicles including emergency equipment; ability to communicate professionally both orally and in writing; ability to use and care for firearms; knowledge of investigative techniques and police patrol methods; knowledge and understanding of the judicial system procedures, policies, jurisdictions and terminology; know the geographical layout of the City and surrounding areas; ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency or crisis situations and mentally and physically operate in same; handle physical assault and deal with verbal abuse in a professional manner and in accordance with department policy and procedures. Additional Information Tools and equipment used include: police car, police radio, radar, handgun and other weapons as needed; baton, handcuffs, breathalyzer, pager, first aid equipment, personal computer including word processing software and other assorted law enforcement equipment. Physical demands include: standing, or sitting; walking; using hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reaching with hands and arms. Climbing or balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and tasting or smelling. Lifting and/or moving objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work environment includes: outside weather conditions; near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; with explosives and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibration.
