RMYC: Yampa Valley Science School Leader Each September Yampa Valley Science School (YVSS) serves as many as 300 Routt County 6th grade students in a residential, experiential Science Camp operated at the historic Perry Mansfield Performing Arts Camp in Strawberry Park. Operated in cooperation with local schools since 2000, YVSS incorporates a 4 day, 1-night science curriculum integrated with CO 6th grade academic standards. The goals of YVSS include: providing place-based environmental education through experiential and interactive lesson activities; providing inter-generational links and mentoring opportunities for sixth graders, high school students, college students, and community adults; and fostering integrated academic education with the public school systems. Member Duties Learn and facilitate science school curriculum and lessons to 6th and 7th-grade students in groups of 7-20 participants per group Participate in a two-week science school training Transport students in 12-15 passenger vans throughout programming Oversee cabin groups of 8-15 participants during overnight activities Oversee cabin groups during meals and evening activities once a week Participate in feedback sessions with fellow leaders and supervisors Facilitate evening activities such as skit night and camp-wide recreational activities Collaborate with fellow staff to ensure all camp operations run smoothly Program Benefits Housing Training Stipend Terms Car recommended.
