In this role, you'll prep ingredients, assemble dishes according to restaurant recipes and specifications, and keep the kitchen running smoothly from the first shift through the last.If you love working in a kitchen, take pride in quality food, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, we'd love to have you on our team.What You'll DoNo two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect:Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile and making every interaction a positive onePrepare cooking surfaces and ready the kitchen for servicePrepare vegetables, sides, meats, and breakfast foods according to restaurant recipes and specificationsPlace food in hot cases, monitor amounts, and refill as necessary throughout your shiftPrepare items for upcoming shifts to ensure a smooth transitionStay knowledgeable of all menu items and take guest orders as neededOrder product and supplies when necessary or notify the department head of needsPractice proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and organized at all timesWork with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environmentAssist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assignedMaintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelinesReport to work when scheduled and on timeYour SkillsSolve practical problems and interpret instructions across a variety of situations with limited standardizationPerform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accuratelyUnderstand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writingWork effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced kitchen environmentReporting RelationshipsAccountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Food Service Manager; Market Grille Department Manager; Assistant Market Grille Department ManagerEducation and ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent experience requiredSix months or less of similar or related work experience preferredPhysical RequirementsFrequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areasWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparationWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipmentWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standardsPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation dutiesWorking EnvironmentThis is a fast-paced role in a kitchen environment where you will be on your feet throughout your shift. You will have frequent exposure to cool and warm temperatures, dampness, equipment noise and vibrations, possible equipment movement hazards from slicers and choppers, and daily exposure to cleaning chemicals or solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.The anticipated hourly starting wage for this position is $12.00 to $15.00 depending on experience.
