Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Description
- The Phlebotomist provides expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation, ensuring minimal discomfort to patients across a wide demographic.
- This role is essential to our commitment to delivering high-quality care to our patients and those of our partners.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens while recording maintenance data and conducting decontamination.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously to patients.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understand and execute all physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as per test order requirements.
- Ensure accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
- Package specimens for transport, adhering to protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
- Store specimen samples at required temperatures, place them in appropriate containers, and accurately label them.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Wear appropriate attire as required.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood drawing techniques.
- Experience with straight needle techniques.
- Strong understanding of specimen processing.
- Bilingual capabilities are an advantage.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 2-3 years of experience in drawing blood.
- Experience with infant and pediatric blood draws is a plus.
- Strong administrative skills and attention to detail.
Work Environment
This position offers a dynamic work environment with opportunities for in-state travel and no holiday or vacation work. Working hours are from 8am to 4:30pm, with rotating Saturdays from 8am to 5pm.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newburgh, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.
