Position Description

This position is for a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) registered nurse (RN) within a general CVCU/ICU/PCU division. The role involves floating between units and requires strong cardiovascular experience.

Required Qualifications

• Certifications:
  
  
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a critical care environment, specifically in telemetry.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification: CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse)

Unit Information

The CVICU provides specialized care for patients aged 16 years and older with primary cardiac diagnoses, including but not limited to:

• Heart failure
• Post-cardiac arrest care
• Cardiothoracic surgeries (CABG, Valve repair/replacement, etc.)
• IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump) therapy
• Impella insertion
• Post-PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention)
• Pacemaker insertion
• Ablation procedures
• Arrhythmia management
• STEMI/NSTEMI care
• EKOS (Endovenous Laser Treatment)

Special Procedures and Unit Details

This unit is a blended environment with 18 beds designated for cardiovascular intensive care (CVICU) and 12 beds for cardiovascular intermediate care (CVIMCU). The multidisciplinary team is committed to delivering exceptional patient care to a diverse community, and the unit has been recognized as one of the nation's Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals.

Nurses receive specialized training for managing this patient population, emphasizing growth and mentoring through a robust training program covering beginner to advanced cardiovascular intensive care techniques.

• Chest tube insertion/removal assistance
• BiPAP/CPAP management
• Blood product administration
• Care of ventilated patients
• Central line care and management
• Cardiovascular monitoring
• Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)
• Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• Emergency medications management

Patient Care Details

We care for adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. The daily census averages 26 patients.
