Job Summary and Qualifications

Draws blood from patients for analysis or other medical purposes. Assembles equipment, such as tourniquet, needles, disposable containers for needles, blood collection tubes, gauze, cotton, and alcohol on work tray according to requirements for specified tests. Verifies and records patient identity and converses with patient to explain procedures and allay fear of procedure.

What will you do in this role:

• Performs specimen collection to the extent determined by laboratory section competency
• Communicates technical information to medical and lay persons
• Instructs patients on proper specimen collection procedures
• Reviews various laboratory reports for completeness and takes measures to remediate any deficiencies found
• Utilizes appropriate age related criteria for communication comfort and safety of patients

What Qualifications You Will Need:

• Licensure/Certification/Registration: Phlebotomy certificate preferred
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: One-year hospital experience (including venipuncture experience) preferred.
• Familiarity with a hospital laboratory is desired. Medical terminology preferred.
