Medical Laboratory Scientist

Job Overview We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) / Medical Technologist to perform, review, and report clinical diagnostic tests for urology and oncology providers while working under the Laboratory Operations Manager. Responsibilities Assist in meeting regulatory agency requirements (CLIA, CAP, etc.). Perform clinical chemistry, immunoassay, hematology, and molecular/FISH testing, and provide coverage as needed. Verify, record, and report results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS). Operate laboratory equipment, perform QC procedures, instrument maintenance, calibration, and proficiency testing according to protocols. Evaluate and report QC results, identify and resolve QC failures. Investigate, document, and resolve specimen integrity or quality issues across pre‑analytical, analytical, and post‑analytical stages. Prepare FISH slides, evaluate on FISH equipment, and report findings to pathologists, managing FISH QC and patient slide storage. Troubleshoot instrumentation malfunctions and coordinate vendor solutions. Centrifuge and aliquot specimens per testing specifications. Maintain meticulous records of specimens, procedures, and results. Ensure proper labeling, tracking, and documentation of samples. Monitor supplies, maintain inventory levels, and dispose of hazardous chemical waste per regulations. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree and completion of a NAACLS Accredited Certificate Program. ASCP MLS or MT Certification. Minimum five (5) years of clinical pathology experience in a core laboratory environment. At least one (1) year of experience in molecular testing, preferably FISH. Key Competencies Proficient in training staff members and leading laboratory projects. Exceptional knowledge of clinical pathology laboratory disciplines. Ability to multi‑task, self‑motivated, dependable, and meet deadlines. Excellent computer software and data analysis skills. Organized with strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong customer service skills, active listening, problem‑solving. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, detail oriented. Maintain HIPAA compliance and other accreditation requirements. Physical Requirements Regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods, walk, bend, stoop, twist. Requires manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, and visual acuity.
