Responsibilities Responsible for maintaining and repairing commercial trucks. Must comply with all safety policies and laws. Must: Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondences. Present information either one‑on‑one or in small groups to customers, clients, and other employees. Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Compute rate, ratio and percent. Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Move with purpose and strong sense of urgency. Work a varied schedule, including weekends and overtime on a frequent basis. Maintain accuracy and attention to detail. Organize and prioritize tasks and projects. Familiarity with industry and technical terms and processes. Valid driver's license. Additional functional responsibilities include: Read job orders and observe and listen to trucks in operation to determine malfunctions and plan work procedures. Install new ignition systems, align front wheels, change or recharge batteries, and replace transmissions and other parts. Overhaul diesel engines using hand tools, welding equipment, standard charts and hoists. Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and make adjustments using hand tools. Qualifications Minimum requirements: 18 years of age or older. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form. Ability and willingness to move with purpose and a strong sense of urgency. Ability to work a varied schedule, any shift including weekends and overtime on a frequent basis. Accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks and projects. Familiarity with industry and technical terms and processes. Valid driver's license. Desired qualifications: Less than high school education but three years of experience in diesel mechanics or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience reading job orders and observing trucks in operation to troubleshoot malfunctions and plan work procedures. Experience installing new ignition systems, aligning front wheels, changing or recharging batteries, and replacing transmissions and other parts. Experience overhauling diesel engines using hand tools, welding equipment, standard charts and hoists. Experience examining protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and making adjustments using hand tools. Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
