Respiratory Therapist - Night Shift

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and assisting in patient transport as medically prescribed, while working within the scope of their professional license and with minimal supervision. This role includes evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans, explaining treatment purposes and procedures to patients, and providing necessary education upon discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments, operating both invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen, aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Execute suctioning via various methods, monitor patient oximetry and capnography according to policy.
• Review and evaluate patient's chest x-rays, perform 12-Lead EKGs, and assist with pulmonary function studies.
• Provide assistance during respiratory procedures such as Bronchoscopy and Chest Tube placement.
• Manage tracheostomy care, including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes, and perform arterial punctures as needed.
• Record all patient information and responses to treatments accurately within the respiratory care records and collaborate with physicians regarding therapy efficiency.
• Maintain proper documentation and communication during shift transitions and uphold all policies related to laboratory testing and respiratory therapy charging.

Schedule

This position requires a night shift schedule of 3x12 hour shifts per week.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Valid Respiratory Therapist licensure as required by the state.
• Experience in intensive respiratory care preferred.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
