Benefits: 401(k) Health insurance Paid time off Closes: 06/27/2026 Job Purpose & Position Overview The purpose of this position is to receive juveniles into the Winnebago Youth Shelter and YCIC and to advise parents/guardians and other relevant agencies on the status, procedures, and processes of the Youth Crisis Intervention Center (YCIC). Youth Workers will provide a safe and secure environment for juveniles while assisting them with behavioral, emotional, medical, and programming needs. They will advise parents or guardians, caseworkers, intake workers, community social workers, attorneys, and relevant agencies on the procedures and processes of the facility. Youth Workers must be knowledgeable of the various segments of the Tribal Court and other resources that comprise the tribal court system. Some degree of hazard is present while working with juveniles with emotional/behavioral problems. Specific Job Duties/Responsibilities Demonstrates the Winnebago Tribe’s core mission, vision and values. Must be flexible to work different shifts within a facility that is operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including all weekends and holidays. Must show excellent work attendance and punctuality to ensure facility staffing needs are met. Responsible for intake and orientating juveniles, parents/guardians, attorneys, social workers, and other relevant personnel and agencies as to the policies and functions of the facility. Practices principles of Trauma Informed Care when assisting youth upon their entrance to the program. Demonstrates familiarity with the security measures as they apply to the facility. Ability to implement and adhere to all policies and procedures of the Winnebago Youth Shelter and YCIC facility set forth by the handbook and policy manual. Implements a daily activity program and monitors youth throughout assigned shift in all areas of group living. Implements behavior management techniques, including discipline and safety, as appropriate. Is mindful and aware of the youth’s medical and special needs and coordinates assistance in those areas. Documents and records behavioral observations in daily behavioral assessment logs. Provides outreach services for disenfranchised youth when and where warranted. Assists in meal planning and ordering of food supply, meal preparation, and serving meals and snacks as directed. Assists and supervises daily clean up and maintenance of the entire YCIC and youth shelter facility. Performs all duties in a manner that ensures the strictest confidentiality due to access to sensitive information. Required Qualifications/Skills Must possess a High School Diploma or GED with two years of college or a minimum of one year of demonstrated experience working with at‑risk youth, or a combination of the above, alternating one year to one year. Must be 21 years of age or older. Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet driver eligibility guidelines. Maintains a positive attitude and excellent customer service skills. Effectively handles situations with residents and visitors with tact, courtesy, respect, and objectivity, employing moral and ethical judgments. Supervisory Responsibilities: May assume supervisory shift responsibility as needed or as assigned. Training Requirements Assists with and participates in in‑service and other related training. Assists with training and orientation of new employees. Must complete on‑site Handle with Care behavior management training. Willing to pursue training and education in criminal justice, social work, or behavioral health. Physical Requirements Normal to very heavy office work, including lifting in excess of 50 lbs. Required to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods and use hands to operate a computer keyboard, phone, and various office equipment. Required to talk and hear regularly during daily duties. Manual dexterity and cooperative free range of motion of all extremities required. May be subject to physical exertion involving standing, walking, and running requiring sustained strength and endurance. Must perform Handle with Care physical intervention techniques when necessary, based on training certification and policy. Mental Requirements Must demonstrate a trauma‑informed mindset and understanding of trauma effects on youth development. Maintain emotional resilience, situational awareness, and the ability to respond with empathy, patience, and consistency during crisis situations. Capable of reading, writing, calculating, and implementing Handle with Care verbal intervention and de‑escalation techniques. Above‑average social interaction skills. Reasoning/analysis ability. Works with minimal to no supervision. Language Requirements Must read, write, and speak English fluently. Effectively employ professional verbal and written communication skills. Work Environment Some degree of hazard is present while working with juveniles with emotional/behavioral issues. Willing to work any assigned schedule; schedules may change every six months. Willing to stay for extra shifts when deemed necessary.
