Job Title: Emergency Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Current RN licensure in Pennsylvania Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification Must-Have: Preference will be given to those with EPIC Computer Charting Experience Description: Provides professional nursing care based on current nursing knowledge through the use of established standards. Utilizes the nursing process through assessment of patient needs, development of the plan of care, implementation of nursing interventions, and evaluation of patient care outcomes for all age populations. Participates in scheduled on-call assignments as needed based on patient volumes. Effectively functions as a team member and as a liaison between patients and staff. Supports and encourages harmonious communication skills. Job requires strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills. Communicates in a highly professional manner at all times. Demonstrates a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with ill people. Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude when interacting with patients, families, and co-workers. Triages every patient entering the emergency care system and determines priorities of care based on physical and psycho-social needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow. Conducts hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room if patients are waiting. Documents in-depth nursing history to include chief complaint, health care status, and other pertinent information. Develops and implements a plan of care based on ongoing assessments. Ensures that supplies and equipment for the care of emergency patients are readily available and in working order. Updates the plan of care continuously to meet the needs of patients and families based on assessment and reevaluation. Includes elements of discharge planning and ongoing discussion with the patient and family. Manages all types of complications and emergencies by following established policies and procedures. Recognizes changes in patient health status and directs appropriate care to ensure patient safety. Documents and acts on patient responses to interventions to facilitate competent medical care. Implements health education for patients and families or significant others. Educates the patient and family on treatment prior to initiation. Assists patients and families with accurate information on health status and referrals. Documents understanding of discharge teaching information provided to patients and families. Performs related and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
