The Opportunity Research Associate for The Urban Institute to work at our Washington, DC HQ location and may telecommute up to 3 days per week. Responsibilities Help manage and conduct research and technical assistance. Support ongoing work, contribute to business development in building research portfolio, and serve principal investigator and senior advisor on future studies. Lead literature and research reviews. Engage in discussion and collaborative projects to inform research, policy, and practice with intersectional marginalized populations through community‑engaged methods research. Prepare materials and collect qualitative data through site visits and phone data collection. Manage qualitative data analysis to determine key themes using qualitative data software such as NVivo or ATLAS.ti. Lead analysis of quantitative data using statistical analysis software such as Stata, R, or SAS. Help facilitate communities of practice and coach partners in data collection and usage related to higher education and workforce issues. Summarize findings and present data effectively in multiple formats. Produce tables, graphics, and visualizations for published reports and presentations. Support fundraising efforts to conduct research and inform practice on postsecondary education, workforce, and labor market issues. Contribute to development of proposals, responses to solicitations, and business cultivation activities. Help manage projects and team performance, managing assistants and analysts; monitor project progress, budget and schedule; and implement strategies to complete project tasks. Assist with quality control for projects, ensuring accuracy of data management, analysis, and reporting. Co‑author research reports, briefs, blogs, and presentations for external audiences. Deliver presentations to external stakeholders at meetings and conferences. Little national travel to attend meetings and conferences not exceeding 60 days a year and 5 days per trip may be involved. Qualifications Must have PhD in Public Policy, Economics, Sociology, Human Development, Political Science or related field. Alternatively may have Masters in Public Policy, Economics, Sociology, Human Development, Political Science or related field and 3 years of relevant experience in public policy research. Salary $83,400 to $145,743 per year. May undergo background checks.
