Key Responsibilities of the Pharmacist

• Prepare and dispense drug orders as per physician requests following established policies and protocols.
• Accurately interpret drug orders and transcribe/verify them into computerized patient medication records.
• Compound and dispense pharmaceuticals, including non-sterile products, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products.
• Issue controlled substances to patient care areas and maintain appropriate records.
• Perform ambulatory pharmaceutical care services and manage patient drug therapy.
• Ensure safe, appropriate, and cost-effective drug therapies.
• Monitor drug therapy regimens for interactions and contraindications.
• Provide clinical consultation and clarification to practitioners as required.

Requirements of the Pharmacist

• Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (preferred) or BS in Pharmacy.
• State licensure (LA license required).
• Hospital experience preferred.
• Pharmacy registration in the State of practice.
• BLS or ACLS via AHA.
