Field Project ManagerA growing luxury custom home builder and artisan millwork company serving Southwest Michigan's Lake Michigan corridor is seeking a Field Project Manager to join their team. This is an onsite, field-driven role for an experienced residential construction professional who can combine Superintendent-level jobsite leadership with the organization, communication, and documentation discipline of a strong Project Manager.You'll take ownership of high-end custom homes and renovations, spending approximately 90% of your time in the field while serving as the critical link between clients, subcontractors, vendors, and the company's internal team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands that custom construction requires more than keeping a schedule moving - every detail matters.What You'll Do as the Field Project Manager:Own day-to-day execution of luxury custom homes and high-end residential renovations from the fieldSpend approximately 90% of your time on active jobsites, proactively inspecting work and identifying issues before they impact subsequent tradesManage project schedules, subcontractors, vendors, materials, site logistics, and overall field coordinationTypically oversee one major custom home alongside one or two smaller or less complex renovation projectsReview plans and scopes thoroughly so subcontractors understand critical details, expectations, and potential problem areas before work beginsInspect completed work for quality, accuracy, and adherence to plans rather than relying on surface-level jobsite checksMaintain consistent communication with clients through calls, texts, emails, meetings, and timely follow-upServe as a polished, knowledgeable representative of the company when working with discerning custom-home clientsComplete accurate same-day daily reports and maintain organized project documentation without exceptionCommunicate project information, field conditions, and potential changes back to the internal estimating teamCoordinate closely with the in-office Estimator, who manages estimating, change orders, and the primary financial administration of projectsAnticipate scheduling, material, subcontractor, and constructability issues before they become project delaysHold subcontractors accountable for workmanship, schedules, cleanliness, and project standardsUse mobile technology and construction software effectively while remaining actively engaged on the jobsiteHelp create an exceptional construction experience for clients through responsiveness, attention to detail, and follow-throughMust-Haves as the Field Project Manager:10+ years of residential construction experience5+ years of direct Project Manager, Superintendent, or comparable field leadership experienceMeaningful custom home construction experience - candidates coming exclusively from production residential or commercial construction will not be the right fitProven ability to manage subcontractors, crews, schedules, materials, and multiple phases of residential constructionStrong understanding of residential construction scopes, sequencing, plans, and quality standardsExceptional attention to detail and ability to identify problems before the next trade arrivesStrong written and verbal communication skills with consistent follow-throughProfessional presence and ability to communicate confidently with high-end homeownersStrong computer and technology proficiency, including the ability to maintain accurate project documentation from the fieldDemonstrated discipline around daily reporting, scheduling, documentation, and project organizationSelf-directed mindset with the ability to make sound decisions without constant oversightAbility to work onsite throughout Southwest Michigan and the Harbor Country/Lake Michigan corridorNice-to-Haves as the Field Project Manager:Luxury residential construction experienceExperience managing $1M+ custom homes or sophisticated high-end renovationsExperience working with architects, designers, custom millwork, and specialty tradesPrevious experience balancing both Superintendent and Project Manager responsibilitiesFamiliarity with the Southwest Michigan, Northwest Indiana, or greater Michiana construction marketExperience working for a smaller custom builder where collaboration and individual accountability are criticalThe Company Offers:Base salary of $80,000-$100,000Year-end bonus opportunity10 days of PTO to start, with flexibility based on candidate experience7 paid holidaysField-driven position with technology and equipment provided to help you remain productive while onsiteDedicated in-office estimating support handling estimating, change orders, and much of the project's financial administrationManage a focused project load rather than being spread across a large number of production homesOpportunity to work on distinctive luxury custom homes and high-end renovations throughout Southwest MichiganJoin a growing 12-person company with significant upcoming project activityCollaborative, family-oriented environment built around good people, craftsmanship, communication, and teamworkHigh level of trust and ownership for an experienced construction professional who can become a true extension of company leadership in the field
