Position Summary The Undergraduate Academic Advisor plays a central role in supporting student success by fostering meaningful engagement and guiding students from enrollment through graduation. This position focuses on promoting persistence, timely degree completion, and holistic student development.
Advisors use a student-centered approach grounded in the Student Engagement Lifecycle (SELC) and the institution's Academic Advising Model. Through individualized support, advisors help students navigate academic planning, explore career pathways, and develop personally and professionally. This role collaborates closely with colleagues across campus to enhance the undergraduate experience and strengthen student outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide proactive, high-quality advising to undergraduate students through one-on-one and group interactions (in person, phone, video, email, and messaging platforms).
- Apply advising frameworks, tools, and best practices to support student engagement, academic success, and retention.
- Guide students in academic planning, course selection, and degree progression while ensuring understanding of institutional policies and requirements.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of undergraduate programs, curriculum options, and academic pathways.
- Integrate career development into advising conversations by connecting academic decisions to career goals, labor market trends, and professional opportunities.
- Partner with Career Services, faculty, and external stakeholders to expand access to internships, experiential learning, and career readiness initiatives.
- Coach students in developing key competencies such as communication, networking, and goal setting, and connect them with campus career resources.
- Design and deliver workshops, programs, and resources that support student success and engagement.
- Build and sustain collaborative relationships with faculty and campus partners.
- Use institutional systems, including CRM and student information systems, to monitor student progress, document interactions, and inform outreach strategies.
- Support students in identifying and resolving academic and personal challenges.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and remain informed on emerging trends and research in academic advising and student affairs.
- Contribute to special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree and 1-3 years of relevant experience in academic advising, student services, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Adaptability and openness to feedback in a dynamic work setting.
- Commitment to a student-centered philosophy and inclusive practices.
- Experience in undergraduate advising, student success, or career development.
- Familiarity with retention strategies, student success metrics, and assessment practices.
- Experience developing student-focused programs, communications, or engagement initiatives.
- Proficiency with CRM systems and student information platforms (e.g., Ellucian).
- Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Adult Learning, or a related field.
