About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable evening and night shift; every other weekend Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, ENPC or PALS, TNCC Must-Have: 2 years of experience in an emergency department setting Experience managing trauma, strokes, sepsis, CHF, and cardiac cases Description: Candidates may not have been full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facility within the past year. The unit has 243 beds/trauma bays. There is a fast track available. A separate triage area exists, and travelers are occasionally required to perform triage. There is no separate holding area in the ER; ER holds are intermixed with other patients. ER nurses are responsible for managing their holds. There are no separate psych/seclusion rooms. In-house security is available. The unit typically sees 80 to 90 patients per day. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 1 to 4. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, ENPC or PALS, and TNCC. Common diagnoses and types of patients include trauma, stroke, sepsis, CHF, and cardiac cases. The team includes both charge nurses and house supervisors. Nurse aids, paramedics, and patient sitters are present in the unit. The electronic medical record system used is Paragon. Respiratory therapy completes ABGs and breathing treatments. There are no monitor technicians; RN staff must know ECG rhythms. X-ray and CT are available next to the emergency department, and transport is provided. Phlebotomy tasks are performed by a technician or RN. Self-scheduling is available for various shifts. Weekend and holiday requirements are every other week. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to other units is required if qualified. Scrub color is navy. Unit-specific orientation is provided. The cancellation policy includes four shifts per 13-week assignment and three shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks.
