Staff Accountant

Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization, maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with month-end close, and ensuring financial reporting is completed in a timely and accurate manner. This role works closely with finance and operational teams to support business objectives and maintain compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting
- Prepare and post journal entries.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- Perform bank, balance sheet, and intercompany reconciliations.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
- Analyze account activity and investigate discrepancies.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Create ad hoc financial reports and analyses for management.
- Support external audits and prepare audit schedules.
Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
- Assist with invoice processing and payment activities.
- Monitor accounts receivable balances and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Reconcile AP and AR subledgers to the general ledger.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Maintain organized financial records and documentation.
- Support tax filings, regulatory reporting, and internal control initiatives.
Special Projects
- Participate in process improvement initiatives.
- Assist with system implementations and other finance-related projects as needed.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
Experience
- 1-3 years of accounting experience preferred.
- Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
- Public accounting internship or experience is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP.
- Experience with ERP or accounting software such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or Sage preferred.
- Knowledge of GAAP.
