Part Time Bookkeeper

Pay: $23.00–$26.00/hour Schedule: 20 hours/week | Hybrid Benefits: SIMPLE IRA, EAP, holiday pay ABOUT THE ROLE A localanimal shelter is looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to join their team on a part-time, hybrid basis. This is a hands‑on accounting position for someone who is comfortable owning the day‑to‑day books, processing payroll, handling reconciliations, and working independently. You’ll work directly with the Executive Director on budgeting and help keep the organization’s financial records accurate, organized, and audit‑ready. WHAT YOU’LL DO Maintain the general ledger and organized accounting files. Process Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable . Complete month-end journal entries. Reconcile bank and investment accounts. Process bi‑weekly payroll for approximately 40 employees. Prepare quarterly payroll tax documentation. Review invoices and purchase orders for accuracy. Communicate with vendors as needed. Compile documentation for the annual audit. Work directly with the Executive Director on budgeting. Handle day‑to‑day accounting responsibilities independently. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR 5+ YEARS OF QUICKBOOKS EXPERIENCE – REQUIRED This is the biggest screening requirement. Candidates must have substantial hands‑on experience using QuickBooks for day‑to‑day accounting functions. We’re specifically looking for someone who understands accounting behind payroll , including payroll‑related journal entries and payroll tax reporting—not someone whose experience is limited to entering payroll data. Additional experience we're looking for: Full-cycle bookkeeping experience strongly preferred. Strong Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable experience. Ability to independently process payroll. Understanding of payroll accounting and payroll tax reporting. Experience with bank and account reconciliations. Ability to work independently and stay organized. SCHEDULE & WORK ENVIRONMENT 20 hours per week. Must be able to travel to the organization’s animal shelter a few days each week as part of the hybrid schedule.
