Surgical Technologist IV - Atrium Health University City

Department: 37703 Atrium Health University City - Surgery Room Full time, 40 hours per week. Benefits Eligible: Yes Pay Range: $28.55 - $42.85 Major Responsibilities Possess thorough knowledge of aseptic technique and its application. Assist in obtaining and organizing supplies and instruments before, during, and after surgical procedures. Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization. Assist registered nurse circulator in patient preparation, assembly of supplies, instruments, equipment, and proper disposition of specimens. Assist with all aspects of room turnover and heightened specialized procedures, including neurosurgery, spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex orthopedics, and robotics. Monitor surgical supplies and instrumentation for sterility and ensure judicious use of supplies. Document and submit charges accurately and appropriately. Monitor and document sterilization activities for completion. Attend in‑services, staff meetings, and exhibit knowledge of current department issues. Participate in performance improvement processes and educational opportunities to increase competency. Assist in the development of policies, procedures, and standards. Serve as a preceptor and clinical resource. Assume responsibility for specified unit clinical projects and oversee service lines as needed. Minimum Job Requirements Education : Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or completion of a military training program for Surgical Technology or Operating Room Specialist. Certification / License : Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider required; other current certifications required. Work Experience : Five years of total operating room experience as a surgical technologist; at least two years of specialized training in neurosurgery, spine, cardiothoracic, vascular, complex orthopedics, or robotics; meets all ST III qualifications of the Surgical Tech Ladder. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the ability to respond to age‑specific issues; provide care for various age groups with the required skill set. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Work involves intermittent noise, dust, fumes, and chemicals. Strenuous physical effort required: walking, stretching, bending, climbing stairs, twisting, and kneeling; may require standing for long periods. Frequent use of side vision, lifting, pushing, and pulling; must lift and support up to 35 pounds. Use of both hands and all fingers is required for gripping, speed work, and precision during operation equipment and instrument handling. Vision and hearing for distances up to twenty feet; depth perception and color discernment required. Work may involve lengthy, irregular hours, rotating shifts, hard surfaces, temperature and humidity changes, and exposure to blood‑borne pathogens.
