Director of Financial Planning and Analysis

StevenDouglas has been retained on an outstanding Director of FP&A search in Austin, Texas. About the Role The Director of FP&A is a director-level role reporting directly to the CFO. This individual will serve as the chief financial planning and analysis authority, owning the processes that translate business strategy into financial plans, forecasts, and decision-ready insights. The role sits at the intersection of finance, operations, and strategy, and is central to how the Company allocates capital, manages performance, and communicates financial results to leadership, lenders, and the Board. Responsibilities Annual Operating Plan & Long-Range Planning Own and lead annual operating plan (AOP) process from kickoff through Board approval, coordinating inputs across all business functions Develop and maintain a multi-year long-range financial model that supports strategic planning, capital allocation decisions, and Board-level scenario analysis. Partner with the CFO to translate strategic priorities into detailed financial targets, headcount plans, and capital expenditure budgets. Prepare and present the annual budget package to the Board of Directors and senior leadership, including variance bridges, sensitivities, and key assumptions. Drive a rolling re-forecast process that keeps the AOP current and actionable as the business evolves throughout the year. Rolling Forecast & Cash Flow Forecasting Own rolling 13-week cash flow forecast, working closely with Accounting, Treasury, and Operations to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Maintain a rigorous monthly revenue and EBITDA forecast, incorporating studio-level performance, new openings, and pricing/volume assumptions. Partner with lenders and the CFO on covenant compliance reporting, borrowing base certificates, and any banking deliverables tied to credit facility. Develop scenario models (downside, base, upside) that enable the CFO and Board to understand risk exposure and liquidity positioning under different operating environments. Support treasury operations by providing forward-looking cash burn and inflow projections that inform working capital decisions. Business Partnering & Performance Management Serve as the primary FP&A business partner to Operations and Marketing Providing financial insight that supports decision-making at the business unit level. Develop and maintain a P&L and KPI reporting framework that enables leadership to identify performance trends, outliers, and growth opportunities across the portfolio. Produce the monthly management reporting package, including executive dashboards, variance commentary, and forward-looking financial summaries. Conduct regular business reviews with functional leaders, translating financial data into actionable recommendations. FP&A Systems & Process Improvement Lead the design and implementation of FP&A tools, templates, and systems that improve forecast accuracy, reduce manual effort, and shorten reporting cycles. Evaluate the ongoing use and effectiveness of existing planning and analytics platforms (e.g., Adaptive, Power BI) that enable scalable, self-service financial reporting. Additionally, assess implementation of additional/alternative FP&A tools across the enterprise to ensure ongoing scalability and relevance of FP&A systems. Establish and document standard operating procedures for the FP&A function, including the forecast calendar, data governance standards, and model version control. Identify automation opportunities in the monthly close and reporting cycle, partnering with Accounting and IT to implement solutions. Build and develop a high-performing FP&A team, including the Senior FP&A Manager and Senior FP&A Analyst, through coaching, clear goal-setting, and a culture of analytical rigor. Strategic Finance & Executive Support Prepare and present materials for Board of Directors meetings, Audit Committee presentations, and lender reporting packages. Support M&A evaluation, integration planning, and purchase price allocation analysis as Company pursues strategic acquisitions. Provide financial analysis and modeling support for major capital allocation decisions, including studio build-out investments, equipment purchases, and technology initiatives. Serve as a thought partner to the CFO on capital structure, debt management, and long-term financing strategy. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA or CFA preferred. 8+ years of progressive FP&A experience, including at least 3 years in a director or senior manager role with full P&L ownership. Demonstrated experience owning the AOP process, including cross-functional coordination and Board-level presentation. Strong financial modeling skills with expert proficiency in Excel; experience with FP&A platforms strongly preferred. Hands‑on experience with cash flow forecasting, banking covenant compliance, and treasury support. Proven ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable narratives for executive and non‑financial audiences. Experience managing and developing a team of FP&A professionals. Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to influence without authority. Prior experience in a high-growth, multi‑location consumer services, retail, or healthcare services business. Familiarity with NetSuite or similar ERP platforms.
