Unit Secretary, OR/Pre-Admission Testing, Per Diem

Job Summary Exemption Status: Non-Exempt . Hiring Range: $15.00 - $27.00 . Final offer may vary within this range based on a candidate’s experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations. Monday through Friday, 0700‑1500, Day Shift, 8 hours. This position may have a signing bonus available; eligibility will be confirmed during the interview process. The role supports patient flow and the operation of the patient care unit. Responsibilities Greets and directs patients, families, visitors, and hospital personnel. Provides basic information or directs requests to appropriate persons and coordinates the flow of information. Answers internal and external phone calls promptly, prioritizes urgent patient information, and contacts physicians or unit staff as appropriate. Assists in maintaining the order, organization, and currency of logs, records, and patient charts, ensuring efficient information sharing within the unit. Processes information needed for various patient services and treatment areas such as radiology, laboratory, dietary, and housekeeping. Enters and tracks data into the computer system pertaining to admissions, training, and discharges. Arranges various tests and procedures, including laboratory tests, radiology, and rehabilitation services. Assists in maintaining proper inventory of standard supplies and materials, prepares requisitions, and maintains billing receipts. Prepares for new admissions and discharges by securing admission kits, chart labels, room labels, checking rooms for readiness; assembles charts, adds patient’s name to census list, processes diet slip and other admission information. Performs routine clerical and computerized duties such as sorting and faxing information, maintaining or creating files, records, logs, and relaying phone messages. Arranges for patient transport as ordered by the clinical team. Keeps waiting areas, conference rooms, and grief sitting areas organized and stocked with information. Participates in training and performance improvement activities as directed. May transcribe physician orders according to hospital procedures. May notify RN of all STAT orders according to established timeline. Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives. Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements. Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed. Position Qualifications License/Certification/Education: Equivalent to high school plus additional specialized training; knowledge of office procedures and operation of office equipment such as computer. Experience/Skills: Ability to handle multiple priorities and effective communication; 3 to 12 months experience. Unless certification or licensure is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed may be substituted for the above requirements. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions Work is considered sedentary. The position requires work indoors in a normal office environment.
