Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for an experienced CDL A Driver with strong side dump and heavy haul background to take ownership of transporting heavy equipment and materials to various jobsites. You will operate a variety of trucks, including semi, bobtail, water, and dump trucks, with a focus on lowboy and side dump operations. The position requires a reliable, detail-oriented professional who can drive manual (stick shift) transmissions, support a smaller company's day-to-day needs, and contribute to both driving and labor tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate CDL A vehicles safely and efficiently, including semi trucks, bobtail trucks, water trucks, and dump trucks.

• Drive manual (stick shift) transmissions with confidence and proficiency.

• Load heavy equipment onto lowboy trailers, ensuring correct positioning and securement.

• Properly strap down and secure heavy equipment and loads on lowboy trailers in compliance with safety and DOT requirements.

• Transport heavy equipment from the shop or yard to job sites across the typical territory, including Pueblo to Lone Tree, and occasional one-off projects in other areas.

• Assist with unloading heavy equipment at job sites, coordinating with site personnel to ensure safe and efficient operations.

• Perform side dump operations, including loading, transporting, and dumping dirt, aggregates, and other materials.

• Arrive at the shop before the workday starts and be prepared to be the first on site and the last to leave, supporting full project cycles as needed.

• Follow directions from leadership and project teams, maintaining a professional and cooperative attitude at all times.

• Demonstrate strong reliability by consistently showing up on time, prepared, and ready to work every day.

• Support a smaller company environment by being willing to perform labor and general tasks when trucks are down, roads are unsafe, or other needs arise.

• Adapt to changing job demands, including helping with various tasks to ensure steady work and pay even when driving is limited.

• Maintain a high level of attention to detail in all aspects of work, including equipment securement, documentation, and vehicle operation.

• Comply with all applicable DOT regulations, company safety policies, and operational procedures.

• Participate in daily start-of-day meetings at the shop and follow assigned routes and schedules.

• Demonstrate a long-term commitment to the role, avoiding frequent job changes and building a stable work history with the company.

Essential Skills

• Valid CDL A license with the ability to operate commercial vehicles safely and legally.

• Manual CDL A Trucking Endorsement

• 3-5 years of recent, relevant CDL A driving experience.

• Heavy haul experience, including loading, securing (strapping), and transporting heavy equipment on lowboy trailers.

• Side dump experience, specifically moving dirt, aggregates, and other bulk materials.

• Proven ability to drive manual (stick shift) transmission trucks.

• Experience operating lowboy trailers for heavy equipment transport.

• Strong truck driving skills across multiple vehicle types, including semi trucks, bobtail trucks, water trucks, and dump trucks.

• Familiarity with DOT regulations and compliance requirements.

• Demonstrated reliability, including consistent attendance and punctuality.

• Detail-oriented approach to safety, equipment securement, and vehicle operation.

• Ability to follow directions, accept feedback, and maintain a positive, professional attitude.

• Willingness to perform physical and labor-intensive tasks in addition to driving responsibilities.

• Stable work history without frequent job changes, demonstrating commitment and longevity.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of lowboy experience is highly valued and may align with higher compensation levels.

• At least 3 years of CDL A driving experience with the ability to be trained on lowboy operations is acceptable.

• Experience with loading and unloading various types of construction or heavy equipment.

• Ability to work independently in the field while maintaining strong communication with the shop and leadership.

• Comfort working in a smaller company environment where flexibility and a team-first mindset are essential.

• Interest in growing into an equipment operator role over time.

• Strong interpersonal skills and a respectful communication style when working with supervisors, coworkers, and clients.

Work Environment

This position is based out of a shop in Calhan, with a typical territory spanning from Pueblo to Lone Tree and occasional one-off projects in locations such as Fairplay and Rocky Ford. The workday starts with a 6:30 AM schedule at the shop, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays as needed. Team members clock in at 6:00 AM and receive pay for drive time from the shop to job sites after the morning meeting. The role involves working in outdoor construction and transportation environments, including variable weather conditions and active job sites. You will spend significant time driving and operating trucks, as well as assisting with loading, unloading, and occasional labor tasks. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, with an expectation of professionalism, reliability, and readiness to support the team wherever needed.

This is a Permanent position based out of Calhan, CO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $62400.00/yr.

Most benefits offered below start at the employee's 90 day employment date.

Primary Care benefit - (not health insurance, no major medical - covers primary care only) $79/month per person. The employee coverage is paid after one year of service. Employees must pay for any dependents. Life Insurance - term/$150,000 - paid by Employer. Retirement - offered through the Colorado SecureSavings program, 5% of gross wages, no company match. Vacation - one week paid after 1 year of service. two weeks after 2 years of service. Paid holidays - Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Years Day. Sick Time - effective upon employment, Colorado standards - 1 hour for every 30 worked, up to a max of 48 hours/year. No carry over.
