Elementary Assistant Principal

Starting Date: Jul 1, 2026 Position Title: Assistant School Principal, Washington 3-5 School Type: Full-year Reports to: Washington 3-5 Principal Salary Range: $118,000 - $122,000 per year Benefits: Eligible for town benefits including Health Insurance General Responsibilities Provide and maintain effective communication, promote belonging for students and staff, plan and facilitate professional learning, assist in management and operations of the school. The Assistant Principal exercises high initiative and judgment in carrying out policies and procedures adopted by the Franklin School Committee, Office of Student Services, Office of Teaching and Learning, and Washington 3-5 School. Qualifications Valid Massachusetts Principal/Assistant Principal K-6 Initial DESE license At least three years of teaching experience (preferred: prior supervisory/leadership experience) Master’s Degree in Education preferred Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Teacher or Administrator Endorsement Performance Responsibilities Instructional Leadership Assist in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum. Coordinate aspects of MCAS administration, including scheduling, accommodations, and test security. Encourage professional study by staff. Orient new staff and assist in their development. Assist in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, focusing on administrative procedures. Visit classrooms, observe, evaluate, and counsel staff on performance. Act as consultant, resource, and mentor to faculty in areas of responsibility. Keep abreast of professional developments by attending meetings, reading journals, and discussing issues with peers. Management and Operations Assist in planning, organizing, and directing implementation of school activities. Prepare statistical and other reports related to attendance, enrollment, and other required data. Inform supervisor of unusual events and routine matters. Assist with class scheduling to meet student needs. Establish guidelines for student conduct and maintain discipline. Oversee Section 504 plans and ensure compliance with state and federal requirements. Maintain and control funds from student activities. Supervise accurate records of student progress and attendance. Assume responsibility for safety and administration of school plant. Supervise fire and emergency drills. Provide leadership during civil disruptions per School Board policy. Ensure property inventory, security, and accountability. Perform related duties as assigned. Family and Community Engagement Build and maintain relationships with students and parents. Arrange special conferences between parents and teachers. Communicate regularly with families about academic progress, behavior, and programs. Provide timely, clear, and accessible communication in multiple formats. Respond to parent/guardian concerns and coordinate resolution. Promote shared responsibility between home and school for learning. Professional Culture Assume responsibility for personal professional growth through membership in professional organizations, attending meetings, and taking advanced courses. Encourage staff professional study. Assist recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluating professional staff. Serve on committees and attend meetings as directed.
