Building Engineer

As a Building Engineer, you will operate, monitor, and troubleshoot Building Management Systems (BMS). You will perform daily inspections and preventative maintenance on building systems, diagnose and repair mechanical equipment such as HVAC and MEP systems, and respond to service requests through various communication channels. Your role will also involve coordinating with vendors for specialized repairs, supporting lab operations, and partnering with operations and EH&S teams on maintenance and projects.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Perform daily inspections and preventative maintenance on building systems.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical equipment, including HVAC and MEP systems.
  • Respond to and resolve service requests via ticketing system, phone, or email.
  • Coordinate with vendors for specialized repairs while remaining hands-on in execution.
  • Support lab operations, including equipment installs and facility upgrades.
  • Partner with operations and EH&S teams on maintenance, projects, and emergency response.
  • Assist with utilities, gases, and materials support for lab environments.
  • Provide after-hours support as part of an on-call rotation.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of hands-on building engineer or mechanical experience.
  • BMS experience, with platforms such as ALC & Schneider.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair issues in real time.
  • Experience with lab/biotech equipment such as nitrogen generators, air compressors, and air dryers.
  • Polished communication skills and a customer-service mindset.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in biotech or life sciences facilities.
  • Background in industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, technical environment.

Work Environment

This position is based in a lab environment in San Francisco. You will work shifts from either 6:00am2:30pm or 7:00am3:30pm, with flexibility required for occasional weekend work. The role involves being part of an on-call rotation, approximately one weekend per month.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of South San Francisco, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
