General Summary

Under the supervision of a licensed nurse (RN, LPN, or shift manager), the Assistant Patient Care Technician delivers direct patient care, ensuring comfort and safety throughout the care process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control, safe patient handling, and timely communication of patient condition changes to nursing staff.
• Perform basic patient care tasks such as monitoring vital signs, glucometer checks, assisting with toileting, feeding, bathing, and mobility activities.
• Support quality outcomes by following hospital policies and procedures designed to maintain patient safety.
• Collaborate closely with nursing personnel to meet patient needs promptly and enhance the overall patient experience.
• Accurately document all patient care activities to assist clinical decision-making by the healthcare team.
• Effectively communicate relevant patient information to appropriate team members to improve care quality and outcomes.

Education

High school diploma or GED is preferred.

Experience

At least one year of experience in a similar role is preferred.

Certification and Licenses

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential through the state is preferred. Candidates without certification or with less than one year of experience are required to complete a specialized Patient Care Assistant training program. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment; training is provided.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This position requires significant mental focus and physical activity, including lifting up to 35 pounds, standing, walking, bending, and other movements necessary to provide patient care.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is expected. The role may occasionally involve interaction with hostile individuals.
