Takes and develops necessary radiographs. Examines teeth and gums for signs of disease or decay. Charts such conditions for further diagnosis and treatment by dentist and for proper patient record maintenance.Applies anesthetic to the area in the month for treatment. Instructs patients using effective communication techniques on proper dental health and oral hygiene. Complete documentation of the chart as necessary for follow-up. Maintain dental equipment and inventory. Follow universal precautions and all Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff. Participate in QA/QI activities as needed. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard and adherence to safety rules and professional standards. Ability to facilitate, supervise, and motivate the effective provision of high-quality dental care. Knowledge and respect of American Indian culture. QUALIFICATIONSAssociate 's degree in dental hygiene Licensure in the State of MinnesotaCompetence in operation of standard dental equipment: cavitron, prophyjet, use of EMR (EPIC) and digital radiographs, including Panorex, dental chair and units, sterilizers, hand scalers, and curettes.PHYSICAL DEMANDSMust be in good physical condition and able to withstand the stress and demands of an active position. Must be able to perform many hours of standing, walking, stooping, bending, and sitting. Manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination, adequate vision and hearing needed in daily work.HIPAAIHB makes reasonable efforts to limit access to and use of protected health information (PHI) by employees to the minimum necessary performance of assigned duties as outlines in job descriptions. This position is access restricted to PHI needed to carry out health care operations.
