Summary
This position is located in Columbus, NE and is responsible for developing new business and closing on consumer loans, maintaining and servicing an existing loan portfolio as well as assisting customers who are purchasing or refinancing a home, obtaining a second mortgage or home equity line of credit. The Mortgage Loan Originator will be responsible for achieving assigned production volume in new mortgage loan originations by developing business contacts and real estate broker relationships, cultivating internal and external referral sources, attracting new mortgage customers, and by providing a positive customer experience.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for interviewing potential borrowers, discussing loan programs, analyzing applicant information for loan program qualifications, discussing interest rate options and assists in the completion of the Universal Residential Loan Application. In addition, is responsible for collection of signed disclosures, and other pertinent documentation, as required to allow for timely processing and underwriting of borrowers’ loan request.
- Responsible for negotiating with borrower according to established guidelines. (i.e. interest rate, fees, loan programs, loan terms, etc.)
- Responsible for determining the proper loan program, inputting information into the necessary software program and submitting loan through the automated underwriting system.
- Responsible for reviewing and obtaining appropriate customer information to submit for secondary market underwriting requirements.
- Responsible for reviewing and obtaining necessary information/documents as required for investor purchase guidelines.
- Responsible for reviewing the credit report to determine any contingent debt or other significant obligations that were not reported by the borrower.
- MLO to lock/register loan with appropriate staff. Verify lock confirmation is received, and is correct according to what was discussed with the borrower.
- Responsible to keep borrower informed in timely fashion, concerning the progress of their loan application and to request additional information and/or resolve questions as applicable.
- Maintain current and thorough knowledge of all lending programs, policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Responsible to inform borrowers of loan rejections, as directed by the mortgage loan underwriting system, by completing necessary documentation as required.
- Responsible for developing prospects to allow for an increased market share. Promotes First Nebraska Bank and cross-sells other established products and services.
- Develop and maintain successful relationships with business referral sources, existing and prospective FNB bank customers.
- Additional related duties may be assigned.
- Accountable for complying with all Bank Secrecy Act and Anti Money Laundering regulations, bank policies and procedures.

Qualifications
- College Degree in Business, Finance/Accounting or related field and 1-3 years of mortgage lending experience – or - High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3-5 years of mortgage lending experience
- Must have working knowledge of residential real estate procedures, as well as knowledge of related laws and compliance regulations.
- Appropriate lending licenses, as required. This position requires compliance with the S.A.F.E. Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 and all related regulations. (i.e. NMLS#)
- Valid Driver’s License
- Bilingual speaking in Spanish/English desired
- Proven leadership in the areas of retail lending, sales & customer relationships
