Job Description
Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, seeks a full-time Biology faculty member in the Natural Sciences and Engineering (NSE) area to fill a position starting January 2027. This position will primarily teach Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II, with additional teaching responsibilities in introductory biology courses for biology majors and non-majors students. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated educator who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.
Anatomy and Physiology I and II serve as a foundational course sequence for students preparing to enter nursing and other health sciences programs at Montgomery College and at other regional institutions. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing these students for competitive admission and for success in their coursework. All of Montgomery College's science buildings were constructed within the last 15 years and feature state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, including dedicated anatomy and physiology laboratories.
The successful candidate will appreciate teaching in a multi-cultural environment and will welcome the opportunity to work with students with diverse learning abilities. Faculty duties include classroom and laboratory instruction, assessment, curriculum development, advising, professional inquiry, committee work, and instructional technology. The opportunity to engage in research with students is also supported and encouraged.
Teaching assignments may include various delivery modes, such as face-to-face, online, remote, hybrid and/or blended formats during days, evenings, and weekends. Montgomery College has four campuses and instructs courses at area high schools, as part of the growing dual enrollment program. Faculty may be assigned to any of these campuses and/or teaching different modalities.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Teaching and Curriculum
Teaches anatomy and physiology and introductory biology courses with a minimum of 30 semester hours per academic year. This teaching position is expected to include Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II (BIOL 212 and BIOL 213), Introductory Biology (BIOL 101 and/or BIOL 150), and other courses in the discipline as needed.
Teaches a varied schedule that may include day, evening, early morning, weekend, and accelerated sections. Opportunities may exist for teaching summer classes.
Designs, implements, manages, and assesses courses taught in a variety of modes, incorporating the use of a learning management system (Blackboard) and other relevant technology into instruction.
Engages students in learning through active, collaborative, and experiential learning approaches, and accommodates students with varying backgrounds and learning styles.
Contributes to curriculum development and revision, including course design, and the review and selection of instructional materials.
Delivers assigned courses in accordance with College catalog descriptions and the teaching standards of the College and the NSE area.
Participates in General Education assessment, course recertification, and program review with the goal of increasing student success.
Laboratory Instruction
Designs and prepares laboratory activities for anatomy and physiology courses, collaborating with lab staff on necessary models, specimens, equipment, and instructional supplies.
Uses anatomical models, prepared specimens, histological preparations, and instructional technology to support student learning of structure and function.
Implements and enforces laboratory safety protocols, including the safe handling and disposal of biological materials and chemicals, in accordance with College policy.
Student Support and Advising
Holds regular office hours and maintains availability to students. Mentors and tutors students outside of class to assist them with being successful in college.
Advises students about program curricula, health sciences career pathways, and transfer options to four-year institutions.
Arranges and promotes scholarship, research, and internship opportunities for students.
Advises and supports student clubs and related student activities.
Service and Professional Development
Participates in college and community activities that contribute to the growth and development of students, the College, and the community.
Serves on and leads department, discipline, campus, and college committees.
Stays current in the discipline and pursues continuous professional development, including participation in professional organizations and activities.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree or higher in a Biological Science or closely related field, with graduate-level preparation in anatomy, physiology, or a related area.
One year of demonstrated college-level teaching experience, which may include experience as a graduate teaching assistant or instructor of record.
Experience teaching college-level anatomy and physiology.
Experience designing and/or setting up hands-on laboratory activities with attention to safety protocols.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in a Biological Science or a closely related field.
Two or more years of recent college teaching experience.
Demonstrated experience teaching a two-semester anatomy and physiology sequence, including both lecture and laboratory.
Experience with laboratory methods used in anatomy and physiology instruction, including anatomical models, prepared specimens, anatomical visualization technologies, and/or physiological data acquisition.
Experience teaching at a community college, another open-enrollment setting, or otherwise working with students of widely varying academic preparation.
Demonstrated experience using varied teaching modalities (face-to-face, blended/hybrid, and online).
Demonstrated experience using techniques to engage students in the classroom.
Demonstrated commitment to student success including increasing retention, transfer, and graduation.
Demonstrated experience in implementing or developing experiential learning opportunities for students.
Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Hiring Range: $64,510 - $98,220
