Member Concierge Captain Recess Fitness Club | Dallas, TX

Full-Time W-2 | $56,000 Starting Salary + Commissions + Bonuses

The Role

Our Member Concierges are the people who make Recess feel like Recess. We're hiring a Captain to work alongside them, keep the day-to-day running smoothly, and help the team get better every week. This is a hands-on front desk leadership role, not a desk-bound management job.

We need a self-starter. Someone who takes initiative, notices what needs to be done, and follows through without waiting for direction. Accountability, good judgment, and a proactive approach are non-negotiable—for your own work and for the team you lead.

Service is black and white. Hospitality is color. We want someone who can deliver both.

What You'll Handle

• Work front desk shifts with the team, set the standard, and coach in the moment.

• Review applications, reply within 24 hours, coordinate interviews, and build the biweekly schedule.

• Train new Concierges after their shadow shifts and get them ready for management skill-out.

• Get to know members, give thoughtful tours, answer questions, and handle routine concerns.

• Keep the club clean, organized, and ready for members, including locker rooms and equipment.

• Help with Normatec and cold plunge appointments, including sanitizing Normatec after every use and following Chilly Goat Pro care procedures.

• Keep merchandise looking sharp, organize and count inventory, maintain backstock, and personally stock the vending refrigerator.

• Prepare payroll and sales reports, follow up on equipment issues, and keep the GM informed.

• Take ownership of problems: handle what you can, communicate what you cannot, and follow through until there is a resolution.

Pay & Schedule

Starting base salary: $56,000 per year , plus commissions on memberships, merchandise, supplements, and eligible re-rack violations.

You'll also earn a $250 retention bonus for each new Member Concierge you train who continues providing services with Recess through their three-month milestone. This is separate from the eligible $250 Unreasonable Hospitality book-club completion bonus available to Concierges.

The Captain is a full-time W-2 employee. The role is 40 paid hours per week: 35 scheduled front desk hours and five paid administrative hours on-site. Two Saturdays per month are required.

These sample schedules reflect what we anticipate initially, not a fixed or guaranteed rotation. As we grow and open Uptown, staffing and operational needs will change. We need someone flexible, willing to adjust shifts, help cover gaps, and do what is needed to support the team and both clubs. That adaptability is an essential part of this role.

Both schedules include 35 scheduled floor hours plus five paid on-site administrative hours, totaling 40 hours per week.

Your Five Administrative Hours

These are paid, completed on-site, and can be split throughout the week as long as floor coverage is protected. You'll use them for:

• Applicant follow-up and interview coordination.

• Member Concierge schedules and coverage.

• Payroll and sales reporting.

• Merchandise and supply inventory.

• Training preparation and follow-up.

• Member Concierge inbox management.

• Team communication, notes, and other required documentation.

Uptown Is Next

We're planning to open our second Recess location in Uptown Dallas in early 2027. You'll help the GM and owners get the new front desk team ready: recruiting support, onboarding, shadow and training shifts, recovery procedures, and the same hospitality and presentation standards members know at Mockingbird.

Flexibility will matter even more during the launch. You must be willing to work at either location, adapt your hours as needed, and step up when opening a new club requires extra coordination or hands-on support, within your paid work schedule.

What You Need to Bring

Both fitness and hospitality experience are required. One does not replace the other.

• At least two years working professionally in a gym, fitness club, or similar fitness setting.

• At least two years working professionally in hospitality, such as a restaurant, hotel, or private club.

• At least one year leading, supervising, or training team members.

• Proven initiative and self-direction. You spot what needs attention and act without being asked.

• Personal accountability. You own your decisions, keep commitments, follow through, and expect the same from your team.

• A solid understanding of commercial gym equipment, including setup, adjustments, basic troubleshooting, and when to flag maintenance.

• Confidence helping members with equipment questions and learning Normatec and cold plunge procedures.

• A friendly, outgoing personality; good judgment; strong organization; and comfort coaching team members and addressing member concerns.

• Comfort using membership, scheduling, payroll, and communication software.

• A polished, professional, date-ready appearance and reliability to work early mornings, late evenings, two Saturdays a month, and at either location.

• A genuine commitment to building a long-term career with Recess and growing with the business as it expands.

You'll Fit In Here If…

You'd rather be on the floor than in an office. You notice the empty towel shelf before someone points it out—and you fix it. You don't need a manager to hand you a to-do list. You make a plan, get things moving, and make sure they get done.

You know when to jump in, when to coach, and when to bring something to the GM. You can hold people accountable while still being someone they want to work with. And you genuinely enjoy watching people you've trained become great at their jobs.

A Long-Term Future With Recess

We're not looking for someone who sees this as a one- or two-year stepping stone. We want someone who believes in what we're building, wants to be part of it for the long haul, and is excited to help shape Recess as we open new locations. The right person will take real pride in the team they develop and the standards they help establish—not just in what they can put on a résumé.

This is a new position, and we expect it to evolve as the club grows. $56,000 is the starting salary, not a permanent ceiling. As the Captain role develops, responsibilities expand, and you demonstrate strong performance, we expect opportunities for further raises and professional growth. Expansion should also create more ways to take on responsibility.

While we can't promise a specific raise or promotion date, we're building this role for someone who wants to grow with Recess for years to come.

We're not hiring another General Manager. We need a proactive, accountable working team leader who knows gyms, understands hospitality, cares about the details, and enjoys developing people.

Someone who can run a great shift, teach someone else to do the same, adapt when plans change, and help us build what's next.
