Veterinary Technician, Emergency Training Program | $20–$29.50/hr
Location:  South Deerfield, MA
Schedule:  Full-Time | Four 9-hour shifts per week
Compensation: $20–$29.50/hour + Shift Differentials

Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospitals (VESH) in South Deerfield, MA is hiring for our ER Immerse Nursing Program , a structured training experience designed to help veterinary professionals build the knowledge, technical skills, and confidence needed to grow into emergency veterinary medicine.

You don’t need to come to us with years of ER experience. ER Immerse combines hands-on patient care, structured education, and mentorship from experienced team members to help you build on the veterinary skills you already have and take the next step in your career.

Compensation

• Non-Credentialed Veterinary Technicians: $20.00–$28.50/hour
• Credentialed Veterinary Technicians (CVT/RVT/LVT): $24.00–$29.50/hour

Shift Differentials:

• Swing Shift (4:00pm–11:59pm): +$2.00/hour
• Overnight Shift (6:00pm–6:00am): +$2.50/hour

Schedule

• Full-time
• Four 9-hour shifts per week
• Anticipated schedule includes a mix of daytime and second shifts
• Weekend and holiday rotation required

Responsibilities
As a Veterinary Technician participating in ER Immerse Nursing, you’ll build on your existing veterinary experience while learning how your skills apply to Emergency and Critical Care medicine.



 

• Work alongside experienced ER Veterinary Technicians and veterinary professionals while developing your emergency nursing skills
• Assist with the assessment, treatment, monitoring, and care of emergency patients based on your current skill level and training progression
• Apply concepts from ER Immerse coursework directly to hands-on patient care
• Participate in mentor-led clinical learning activities during your normal working hours
• Develop and strengthen skills in patient assessment, laboratory procedures, radiography, venipuncture, catheter care, medical math, pharmacology, CPR, bandaging, wound care, and patient handling
• Receive coaching, feedback, and skill validation from your mentor throughout the program
• Build confidence working with advanced, urgent, and critically ill patients as your knowledge and technical abilities progress
• Continue developing the clinical judgment, communication, and technical skills needed to work effectively as part of an Emergency and Critical Care team

ER Immerse Nursing is designed to meet learners at different stages of their veterinary careers. Your starting learning path will be based on your current knowledge, skills, and experience.

ER Immerse Nursing: A Learning Path Built Around You
Choosing the right learning path starts with understanding your current skills and experience. ER Immerse Nursing offers two training paths so you can begin at the level that best supports your development.



 

1. ER Immerse Nursing Foundations
   1. Foundations is designed for learners who are newer to veterinary medicine or have limited emergency experience. The program helps you develop essential clinical knowledge and technical skills before advancing into Core.
2. ER Immerse Nursing Core
   1. Core is designed for learners who already have a solid clinical foundation and are ready to advance their Emergency and Critical Care nursing skills.

Foundational skills for Core include:

• Triage and patient assessment
• Appropriate patient handling
• Laboratory skills
• Radiograph skills
• Basic understanding of pharmacology
• Medical math, including conversions and drug dosages
• Medical terminology
• Animal husbandry
• Basic CPR
• Bandaging and wound care
• Catheter maintenance
• Basic venipuncture
• Basic euthanasia procedures

If you are still developing these skills, Foundations gives you the opportunity to build them before progressing to Core.

Mentorship Throughout Your Training
You won’t be expected to figure out emergency medicine on your own.

Experienced team members will guide and support you throughout your development. At Ethos, mentorship is a reciprocal relationship where mentors and mentees learn from one another while building clinical skills, professional confidence, and strong working relationships.

Mentor-led activities connect your online education with the patient care you provide. These activities are completed during your normal working hours, with your mentor providing observation, coaching, and skill sign-off as you progress.
