General Summary

The Project Engineer works closely with the Project Superintendent and Project Manager in the coordination of subcontracted and self-performed work. The Project Engineer is responsible for document coordination, document tracking and document updates issued by the design team.  The Project Engineer manages material and equipment expediting as well as documentation and resolution of conflicts found in the drawings and specifications.  The Project Engineer understands and implements the Company’s safety policies in his or her coordination efforts. 

The Project Engineer maintains professional and productive relationships with the owner, architect, subcontractors, and Company staff.  The Project Engineer is responsible for promoting the interests of the Company and its clients.

Key Relationships

The Project Engineer reports to the Project Manager.

Daily contact occurs with Project Superintendent, Project Manager, subcontractors, owners, architects, and inspectors.

Essential Responsibilities

1)    Project Safety Responsibility 

a)    Assist in development, implementation, and monitoring of project safety program

b)    Knowledgeable and complies with Company and Cal/OSHA requirements

c)    Considers safety requirements while coordinating construction activities

2)      Environmental Responsibility

a)    Coordinates and maintains compliance documentation of state and local regulatory agencies

b)    Coordinates and maintains compliance documentation of sustainable building practices (CALGreen, Build It Green, LEED, etc) as applicable to project

3)      Permit Responsibility

a)    Assists Project Superintendent in coordinating permit requirements, obtaining permits, documenting compliance, and maintaining inspection records

4)      Field Supervisory Responsibility

a)    Works with Project Superintendent to establish requirements and procurement plan for temporary construction services (toilets, fence, trailer, storage containers)

b)    Assists Project Superintendent in developing site logistic plans for the project

c)    Assists Project Superintendent in tracking construction equipment and hoisting usage on the project

d)    Expedites subcontractors, materials, equipment, and labor for the project

e)    Provide notification letters to neighbors, residents, and tenants of construction activities affecting daily operations (noise, traffic, utility shutdowns, etc)

f)     Assists Project Superintendent in labor relations on the project (dual gate, etc)

5)      Cost Management Responsibility

a)    Responsible for knowledge of project estimate

b)    Assist in monitoring self-perform labor and material cost

c)    Assist Project Manager with monthly Application for Payment

d)    Assist Project Manager in review and approval of subcontractor pay requests

e)    Assist Project Manager in identifying and assembling pending change orders

f)     Assist Project Manager is subcontractor change order process

6)      Document Responsibility

a)    Responsible for complete knowledge of drawings, specifications, and other project documents

b)    Assist Project Manager in submission of documents required by the contract (monthly progress reports, schedule updates, cost projections, logs, etc)

c)    Responsible for knowledge of subcontract requirements and scope of work

d)    Proactively manage RFI process coordinating and communicating field issues to design team to ensure resolution

e)    Organize and distribute document revisions (RFI’s, ASI’s, bulletins, construction directives, etc.)

f)     Manage submittal process coordinating with subcontractors, suppliers, design team, and Company project team

g)    Develop and maintain project tracking logs (submittal register, RFI log, quality control log, etc.)

h)    Prepare submittals for self-perform scopes of work

i)     Prepare and distribute OAC meeting minutes and agendas

j)     Assist Project Superintendent with daily Company and subcontractor sign-in sheets

k)    Assist Project Superintendent with daily progress photo documentation

7)      Scheduling Responsibility

a)    Develop a procurement schedule for the project, ensuring submittals are approved to achieve project schedule

b)    Participate in project schedule updates to ensure contract compliance and maximize project performance

c)    Assist Project Superintendent with coordinating subcontractors and other project partners to facilitate timely completion of planned activities

8)      Quality Control Responsibility

a)    Knowledgeable of project quality plan and project quality expectations

b)    Participate in preconstruction meetings and mock up activities to ensure quality expectations are communicated and understood

c)    Verify material delivered to the site adheres with approved submittals

d)    Manage documentation and communication of quality issues (inspections, observation reports, punch list, etc.)

9)      Subcontractor Responsibility

a)    Expedite materials and equipment, and manpower to the project to align with project schedule

b)    Assist Project Manager with subcontractor cost management and change order process

c)    Assist Project Manager with subcontractor request for payment review, approval, and cost coding

10)   Meeting Responsibility

a)    Owner/Architect/Contractor (OAC) – Attend meeting with primary responsibility to report on Submittal and RFI status & record meeting minutes during this weekly meeting

b)    Branagh Project Team – Weekly participation providing coordination of RFI’s, submittals, and procurement matters while recording meeting minutes

c)    Field (Foreman) Coordination – Attend, providing support to Project Superintendent in expediting materials and subcontractors; record meeting minutes as requested by Project Superintendent

d)    Pre-Construction / Pre-Installation – Attend, providing input in project documentation processes; record meeting minutes as requested by Project Manager

11)   Leadership Responsibility

a)    Maintain positive relationships with the owner, architect, design team, subcontractors, Company project team, public, governmental agencies, and all others involved in the project

b)    Ensure timely and accurate communication to Project Manager and Project Superintendent of potential challenges

c)    Promote the interests of the Company and its clients in all matters

12)   Other duties as assigned.
