Eligibility Referral Specialist

The purpose of the Eligibility Referral Specialist is to interview and maintain communication with public assistance clients who have previously been determined to be eligible for public assistance for the following programs: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Ohio Works First (OWF), Medicaid, Prevention, Retention Contingency Program (PRC), Publicly Funded Childcare, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), Learning Earning and Parenting (LEAP), Comprehensive Case Management and Employment Program (CCMEP), and other programs.

Job duties include interviewing and maintaining communication with public assistance clients who have previously been determined to be eligible for public assistance and/or assessing ongoing clients' employment situation and seeking to resolve any barriers to employment these clients may be experiencing. Additionally, the specialist tracks ongoing clients already enrolled in education and/or training programs and assists ongoing clients in job search/retention activities. The specialist also processes public assistance overpayments and under-issuances, attends hearings, training, and meetings regarding public assistance issues/cases and/or employment issues, contacts other public and private sector agencies to establish potential work experience sites for education and/or training program participants, and performs miscellaneous tasks associated with the duties of the Eligibility/Referral unit.

Major worker characteristics include knowledge of office practices and procedures, federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations governing eligibility, agency computer systems, and office management. Skills include typing, word processing, and interviewing. Ability in reasoning, numerical, verbal, clerical, interpersonal, and physical are also required.

Minimum class qualifications for employment include a high school diploma/GED or 1-3 years at a JFS agency. An associate degree is preferred.

Hours are Monday – Friday, 8a – 5p (hours may vary due to the needs of the agency outside of normal working hours). FLSA is non-exempt from overtime.
