Senior Backend Software Engineer, Integrations Platform

As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, Integrations Platform at Vanta, you’ll be responsible for:

• Setting technical strategy and direction for critical platform surface areas, staying ahead of rapid growth.
• Designing and evolving the APIs, primitives, and self-service golden paths that internal teams, partners, and customers build on.
• Owning the authentication, data-ingestion, and schema-evolution primitives that keep integrations with external systems secure and reliable at scale.
• Building secure, well-documented, scalable backend services and developer tooling (including CI/CD) that propel engineering productivity.
• Driving performance, operational excellence, and SDLC best practices; making and defending buy-vs-build and one-way-door decisions.
• Acting as a force multiplier: mentoring and upleveling teammates, and setting the design patterns the team standardizes on.
• Building with TypeScript, React, and Node.js, and using AI tools to accelerate development and workflows.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend development building reliable, scalable, fault-tolerant systems.
• Platform and API design: evolved core APIs, SDKs, and platform abstractions, with deep expertise in RESTful APIs, GraphQL, authentication protocols (OAuth, API keys, JWT), and security best practices.
• Data Integrations: built resilient data ingestion from external systems, including integrations with cloud providers, HRIS platforms, identity providers, and code repositories.
• Systems thinking at scale: designed for scale, reliability, and failure modes.
• Technical leadership and cross-team influence: led teams and complex projects, influencing decisions across the organization.
• Internal Enablement and Evangelism: built sample integrations, POCs, AI Skills, documentation, and workshops to help internal engineering teams onboard quickly to the platform.

Requirements

• Experience in startup or bias-for-action environments, greenfield work, multi-region or Gov deployments, and prior experience in security or compliance products.
• Open to using AI to amplify skills and strengthen work - demonstrating curiosity, a willingness to learn, and sound judgment in applying AI responsibly to improve efficiency and impact.
