Histotechnologist II - IHC Lead (Mon-Fri 9-5:30)

Job Description Processes patient surgical pathology specimens to paraffin, embeds tissue, performs paraffin block preparation with microtomes, stains tissue, prepares coverslips, and assesses sections microscopically for quality with a focus on immunohistochemistry. Validates and optimizes antibodies, ensuring quality control of all stained cases. Acts as liaison in the absence of the supervisor and leads the team, communicating directly with the supervisor regarding policy changes, result delays, or quality concerns. Shift and Compensation Shift: Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Pay Range: $44.10 – $59.35 per hour, based on seniority, education, training, experience and applicable factors. Additional compensation may be earned through shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, and overtime. Responsibilities Perform all immunohistochemical staining daily using approved automated stainers and ensure quality control material is stained concurrently with each case. Validate and optimize new antibodies and procedures following lab policy and CAP guidelines. Collect recycling daily as part of the Medical Center’s QI initiatives. Maintain continuing education to meet registration requirements and stay current in histology developments, including mandatory and voluntary continuing education, competency testing, and quality assurance. Handle all antibodies, kits, and controls, maintaining records of controls in accordance with department and CAP guidelines, and ensuring their adequacy. Prepare cases for pathologists’ review and maintain comprehensive files of blocks and slides to assure accuracy and quality control. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from a NAACLS‑accredited histology technician/technology program or a regionally accredited college/university with valid HT credentials and 3 years of applicable experience; 5 years of experience including special stains and immunohistochemistry preferred. Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and other web‑based applications; ability to produce complex documents, perform analysis, and maintain databases. Preferred Qualifications ASCP Registered histotechnician credential.
