Sr/Staff Software Engineer

Full-time | On-site | New York City, NY

Salary: $180,000–$270,000 + meaningful early-stage equity (0.1–0.5%)

About the Role

Our client is a venture-backed AI software company building intelligent automation solutions for enterprise finance teams. They are seeking a Sr/Staff Software Engineer with 4–12 years of experience to own the foundational platform systems that power every product and engineering team.

You'll build agent frameworks, context systems, orchestration, and data infrastructure while working directly with customers, finance teams, and company founders to solve complex technical challenges and build scalable infrastructure that enables the entire engineering organization.

What You'll Do

• Build and own the core platform layer, including agent frameworks, orchestration, verification, observability, and developer tooling that every engineering team builds upon.

• Design financial data platforms that ingest, normalize, and reconcile data from ERPs, banks, billing platforms, payroll systems, CRMs, and other enterprise systems into a trusted source of truth.

• Work directly with customers and finance teams to understand business workflows and translate them into scalable platform capabilities.

• Lead architectural decisions under ambiguity by identifying technical bottlenecks, making key engineering decisions, and contributing across the full stack when needed.

• Drive cross-functional platform initiatives that increase engineering velocity and support the company's continued growth.

Qualifications

• 4–12 years of backend or platform software engineering experience using Python.

• Experience building foundational platform, infrastructure, or framework systems that support multiple engineering teams or production workloads.

• Proven success delivering high-impact, cross-functional engineering projects at scale.

• Experience working in an early-stage startup environment (pre-Series B preferred).

• Experience within fintech, accounting, ERP, payments, ledger systems, or related financial technology platforms.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.

• Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or similar.

• Strong expertise in distributed systems and data infrastructure.

• Comfortable contributing across the stack using technologies such as TypeScript and React when needed.

• Experience building enterprise integrations, APIs, and financial data pipelines.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work directly with customers and translate business challenges into technical solutions.
