Physician - Primary Care

Summary The Sheridan VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for an Intermittent Physician who will travel to our respective outpatient clinics in Sheridan, Casper, Gillette, and Cody, Wyoming to provide Primary Care to our Veterans. This appointment will not exceed 3 years. Qualifications United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program that leads to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or other non‑U.S. residencies followed by at least five years of verified practice in the United States deemed adequate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency programs who otherwise meet the basic requirements are eligible to be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed and can be appointed only on an intermittent or fee‑basis; they are not independent practitioners and are not privileged, but have a scope of practice that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred experience in Women’s Health – board certified. The normal work requires visual acuity (corrective lenses permitted), keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity, and potentially moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds). Duties Perform specialized treatment, comprehensive assessment, and diagnosis of complex physical and mental illness for outpatients in a clinical setting. Maintain board certification (if board certified), meet CME requirements, and may be asked to participate in resident/student training. Demonstrate patient‑family centered care and customer service with respectful, articulate, and courteous communication with a patient population of varied educational and ethnic backgrounds. Participate in peer reviews and committees while exhibiting professional cooperation and considerate conversation with multi‑faceted staff. Work effectively in stressful situations, shift priorities based on patient needs, and adjust to occasional patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. Provide timely and accurate electronic medical record entries appropriate in tone and content. Travel to Sheridan, Casper, Gillette, and Cody, Wyoming to provide Primary Care coverage in outpatient clinics according to assigned schedule. Provide cross‑cover coverage for other medical providers as needed in the four Wyoming VA clinics. Manage comprehensive medical care for a panel of Veterans enrolled in Primary Care. Maintain licensure and certifications requisite for credentials and privileges.
