Department DPW – Recreation – OPEE Summer Adventures Employment Status Chapter 7 Ordinance, Non-Exempt, Seasonal (Hours As Needed/Varies) Schedule Mon – Fri, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM Certifications/Licenses Required High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or 1‑3 months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Summary The City of Chicopee’s Department of Public Works, Parks Division is hiring a Temporary Laborer who will be an integral part of the maintenance division performing various job duties as needed. Essential Duties Include Performs miscellaneous skilled and unskilled manual duties in the maintenance and care of recreation areas, athletic fields, park and playground equipment. Lines playing fields. Plants trees, shrubs, and flowers. Replaces grass. Repair fences, water fountains, drainage systems, swings, slides, and other playground equipment. Paints and does other maintenance work. Performs other related unskilled labor duties such as cleaning debris and leaf removal. May also operate weedwhacker. Tree cutting and removal. Qualifications High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or 1‑3 months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required) Some experience in maintenance work involving turf maintenance and other skilled/unskilled job duties. (Required) General knowledge of parks and recreation department operations.
