Description

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with ECMO Specialist experience for a night shift position in adult critical care at a Magnet, Level III Trauma teaching hospital.

Details

Respiratory/Neuro Diagnostics unit in a short-term acute care, Magnet-designated, teaching hospital with Level III Trauma status

Adult critical care patient population, including ECMO, ARDS, aspiration, bronchoscopy, COVID, fresh tracheostomy, and pneumonia cases

Patient ratio of 1:6

Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 1830-0700, with occasional day shift coverage as needed

Works every other weekend

Will float within the hospital or to an affiliate hospital nearby as needed

No on-call requirement

Uses Epic/Excellian for charting

Requirements

Minimum 2 years of RRT experience and 1 year of ECMO Specialist experience required

Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, RRT

State license required if applicable

Pending license accepted but must be active at start of assignment

Adult Critical Care setting experience required

Experience with airway management devices including ET tube/suctioning, extubation, intubation assist, nasal/oral airway placement and suctioning, tracheostomy care/suctioning, and pulmonary hygiene

Experience administering medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, Mucomyst, Nitric Oxide (iNO), Pulmicort, racemic epinephrine, Spiriva, Tobramycin, and Xopenex

Experience with nebulizer types including cold, hand held, heated, ultrasonic, T-piece, and trach collar

Experience with oxygen therapy delivery including bag and mask, ET tube, HFNC, portable oxygen tank, protocol-driven ECMO, T-piece, and trach collar

Arterial puncture and arterial blood gas drawing/interpretation experience required

Ventilator management experience including BiPAP, CPAP, SIMV, patient transport, troubleshooting high pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation

Epic/Excellian charting experience required

Teaching hospital experience preferred

First-time travelers accepted with minimum 1 year ECMO Specialist experience

Additional Information

Serves as an ECMO Specialist providing respiratory care to critically ill adult patients

Performs chest physiotherapy including vest therapy and sputum specimen collection

Scrub color is Ceil Blue (provided) or Olive Green (traveler's own)

Candidates must live more than 100 miles from the facility to be considered

Returning staff must have a 3-month gap since their last shift worked as perm staff or per diem

RTO should ideally be no more than 5 days
