Position Overview This is a skilled position controlling production and load out of materials produced in plants. The plant operator is responsible for the efficient working condition of plant equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor. Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties And Functions) Reads work schedules and determines sequence of operations. Operates plant according to production schedule using appropriate materials. Monitor material operation to ensure quality of mix. Performs basic maintenance and service on plant as required. Ability to weld using an arc welder or cutting torch is preferred. Cleans control house and yard facility daily. Enters production information into computer systems. Other duties as assigned per supervisor. May be subject to drug testing, medical exams and physical agility testing. Operate equipment safely and efficiently. Locate utilities and other buried lines prior to digging. Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor. Keep time and material records. Knowledge of aggregate sizes and classifications. Knowledge of weight requirements of loads leaving the pit. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Work Requirements Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondences and memos. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Inventory and Order processing systems; uses job specific computer system for ticketing and two way radio for communications. Knowledge/Skill Requirements Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance and punctuality. Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment-controlled substance testing. Demonstrates the ability to work overtime and weekends/holidays as needed. Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations. Must be a current member or join Laborers Union Local 1686 within 30 days of hire. Must have current US Authorization to work or ability to obtain without company assistance prior to start date. Valid Drivers License.
