7N Cardiac/Telemetry (Cardiopulmonary) RN – Quick Breakdown

Unit Overview

• Unit: 7N Cardiac/Telemetry (Cardiopulmonary)
• Beds: 29
• Patient Ratio: 1:5–6
• Unit Type: Cardiac Telemetry / Med-Surg Tele (Not Stepdown)

Required Certifications

• BLS
• ACLS

Common Patient Population

• Cardiac patients
• Post-cardiac catheterization patients
• Acute MI (AMI)
• Post-PCI patients
• CR bands
• Pacemaker patients
• Respiratory failure
• Chest tube patients
• Post-op lung surgery patients transferred from CCU

Required Skills

✅ Telemetry interpretation
✅ Cardiac patient management
✅ Titration of cardiac drips
✅ Care of chest tube patients

Drip Experience Required

Must be able to titrate:

• Cardizem
• Amiodarone
• Dobutamine
• Dopamine
• Integrelin
• Heparin
• Ativan
• Lasix
• Nitro (up to 50 mcg)

Telemetry

• Phillips monitors
• Nurses must independently read and interpret telemetry strips

Support Staff

• Charge Nurse available 24/7
  • Days: No patient assignment
  • Nights: Takes patients
• CNA Support
  • Typically 3 CNAs on days
  • 2 CNAs on nights
  • Goal ratio: 1 CNA : 12 patients

Respiratory Support

• CPAP
• BiPAP
• Respiratory Therapy manages equipment

Scheduling

• Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• 12-hour shifts

Typical Weekly Hours

• 3 shifts/week = 36 hours/week
• 6 shifts/pay period

Weekend & Holiday Requirements

• Every other weekend (Sat/Sun)
• Holiday rotation with permanent staff

Floating

• May float to any Med-Surg/Telemetry unit

Dress Code

• Royal Blue scrubs
• No false nails permitted
