DRIVER SAFETY HEARING OFFICER

Job Title: Driver Safety Hearing Officer – Telework Hybrid Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), Orange County, Orange Driver Safety Office (telework available). Salary Range: $4,509.00 – $8,078.00 per month. Permanent, full‑time, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Job Overview Under the direction of the Driver Safety Manager, review financial responsibility and driver records; conduct interviews, reexaminations, and hearings related to the modification, reinstatement, granting, or withdrawal of driving privilege. Handle cases involving drivers with physical or mental problems, negligent vehicle operation, fraudulent activity, or non‑compliance with the Administrative Per Se (APS) statute. Function in a lead capacity and perform other related duties. Responsibilities Review financial responsibility and driver records. Conduct interviews, reexaminations, and hearings for driving privilege decisions. Handle cases involving physical or mental problems, negligent vehicle operation, fraud, or APS statute violations. Function in a lead capacity and perform other related work as directed. Minimum Qualifications Eligibility for appointment and successful completion of the California Civil Service examination for Driver Safety Hearing Officer. Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) with class, expiration date, and any endorsements or restrictions provided. Background investigation clearance required before hire. Authorized to work in the United States; no visa sponsorship. Eligible under SROA, Surplus, or current classification. SROA/Surplus candidates receive priority. Minimum qualifications verified prior to interview or appointment. Special Requirements Participation in the DMV Pull Notice Program. Telework requires California residency; hybrid telework arrangements may change based on departmental needs. May be required to travel infrequently for training, conferences, or meetings.
