Your Opportunity

Stantec's South Carolina Transportation team is seeking an experienced Senior Transportation Project Manager to join our growing practice in Columbia. This leadership role combines transportation project delivery with the strategic growth of hydrology and water resources services.

The successful candidate will manage roadway improvement and hydrology-related transportation projects for the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), municipalities, counties, and other public-sector clients. This individual will also identify, pursue, and win new hydrology and transportation work while strengthening client relationships throughout the region.

This position is well suited for a transportation leader who enjoys project delivery, client development, and building collaborative, multidisciplinary teams.

Your Key Responsibilities Project Leadership & Delivery

• Serve as Project Manager for transportation infrastructure assignments, including roadway improvements, drainage enhancements, intersection improvements, corridor projects, and related initiatives.

• Lead teams through planning, design, permitting, delivery, and construction support.

• Manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and client expectations while maintaining strong project financial performance.

• Coordinate roadway, drainage, environmental, structural, traffic, utility, and other disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.

• Provide technical oversight and quality review for roadway and hydrology-related deliverables.

• Guide project teams in meeting SCDOT standards, local agency requirements, and applicable regulations.

Client Management & Business Development

• Build and maintain relationships with SCDOT, municipalities, counties, Council of Governments, and private developers.

• Identify, qualify, and track project opportunities, teaming relationships, and strategic pursuits.

• Lead proposal development, including pursuit strategy, teaming, scope development, fee negotiations, interview preparation, and presentations.

• Collaborate with regional leadership, technical teams, business development professionals, and marketing partners to position Stantec for success.

Technical & Team Leadership

• Provide senior-level guidance for roadway drainage, stormwater management, hydraulic analyses, flood studies, watershed evaluations, and transportation-related hydrology assignments.

• Advance practical, resilient transportation solutions that address stormwater, flooding, constructability, and long-term infrastructure performance.

• Mentor engineers and project managers and support the professional development of emerging leaders.

• Promote collaboration across infrastructure, water, and environmental, and teams throughout the Southeast

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Demonstrated success managing transportation infrastructure projects for public-sector clients.

• Experience leading roadway improvement projects and multidisciplinary transportation design teams.

• Strong understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, drainage design, stormwater management, and water resources applications within transportation projects.

• Proven ability to build client relationships, develop new business, and lead successful pursuits.

• Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and leadership skills.

• Strong knowledge of project financial management, quality management, and risk management.

• Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines, business lines, and geographic locations.

Preferred Experience

• Experience with SCDOT project development and delivery.

• Familiarity with transportation drainage design, floodplain analysis, watershed studies, and permitting.

• Established relationships with transportation and water resources clients in South Carolina.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; South Carolina PE preferred or the ability to obtain licensure through comity.

• 20 or more years of progressively responsible experience in transportation design and project management to include hydrologic/hydraulic studies and drainage improvement projects.

• Demonstrated experience managing complex projects and working directly with clients.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
