Floor Team Manager The Floor Team Manager is the champion of the Museum floor experience, leading an incredible team of Museum Associates who help bring the wonder and joy of childhood to life every day. Part coach, part problem‑solver and part cheerleader, this role ensures that every Museum Associate has the support, training and encouragement they need to create extraordinary experiences for children and families. The Floor Team Manager is a proactive and strategic thinker who builds a culture where play, belonging, curiosity and exceptional guest service thrive. From recruiting and developing staff to coordinating schedules and facilitating training, this role helps ensure the Museum is staffed, supported and ready for adventure. Whether coaching a team member, leading a post‑shift huddle, identifying and helping to solve challenges, or jumping into play alongside teammates, the Floor Team Manager helps create an environment where children can learn through play and staff can do their best work. Reporting to the Associate Director of Operations and Engagement, the Floor Team Manager serves as a key leader on the Museum floor, fostering a collaborative team culture and ensuring that every day at the Museum is welcoming, playful and memorable. Compensation: $64,200-$68,658 annually Position Specifications: Full‑time, exempt, Tuesday‑Saturday required. Additional hours as needed to meet business needs for occasional weekends, evenings, holidays and events. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Team Leadership and Staff Development Directly supervise a team of Museum Associates. Conduct bi‑weekly one‑on‑one meetings with direct reports focused on strengths, growth opportunities, performance goals and career development. Actively observe, conduct ongoing coaching conversations, document performance, celebrate successes and hold staff accountable to expectations that drive individual growth and operational excellence. Foster a team culture centered on belonging, collaboration, playfulness and continuous improvement. Hiring, Onboarding, and Training Recruit, interview, hire and onboard Museum Associates. Develop long‑term sustainable strategies for hiring and retaining talent. Create and maintain onboarding and training schedules. Build and implement a training curriculum focused on empowering Museum Associates to engage in play work with our guests on the Museum floor. Facilitate and co‑facilitate play‑based training experiences. Ensure staff receive consistent training in guest engagement, safety, operational procedures and Museum values. Identify professional development opportunities and support staff growth. Staffing and Scheduling Develop and manage long‑term staffing schedules, including monthly coverage plans, shift assignments, and coordination for planned absences. Manage labor costs for the Museum Associate team, including staffing levels, scheduled hours, overtime and benefits to ensure alignment with budget goals. Monitor staffing trends, turnover and employee availability to proactively address future staffing needs and ensure operational readiness. Lead end‑of‑day Museum Associate huddles and facilitate information‑sharing processes to promote effective communication, accountability and operational readiness. Gather and synthesize operational updates, staff feedback and emerging priorities, escalating issues and identifying opportunities to support effective decision‑making. Prepare and distribute daily recap communications to keep staff informed of operational updates, key decisions and upcoming priorities. Partner with the Floor Operations Manager and other departments to ensure timely, consistent communication reaches front‑line staff effectively. Continuous Improvement Actively listen to staff feedback and ideas, fostering open communication and a positive team culture. Identify and implement opportunities to improve team effectiveness, communication, training and staff experience. Take initiative to solve challenges and improve outcomes for guests, staff and operations. Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) as assigned, providing leadership, decision‑making and operational oversight. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Education: Bachelor's Degree in a related field, or an equivalent of education and relevant work experience. Required Work Experience Minimum 3 years of leadership, management, coaching and/or supervisory experience of front‑line staff. Minimum 1 year of experience planning, facilitating and evaluating training for adults. Minimum 1 year of experience with budget oversight and fiscal accountability. Experience working in museums, theatres, zoos, aquariums or other cultural institutions preferred. Demonstrated leadership in implementing and training on best practices in play‑based learning and high‑quality adult‑child interactions. Thrives in environment where every day is different and there are often interjections in daily workflow. First Aid and CPR Certification required (will be provided if not current). Fluent English proficiency, strong writing and public speaking skills; Spanish bilingual preferred. Physical Demands Ability to load, unload and set up materials and equipment (up to 50 lbs.). Frequently move, transport, position equipment up to 50 lbs. across campus for various Museum operations needs. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time indoors and outdoors (up to 6 hours). Effectively operate a radio two‑way to frequently communicate and exchange information with staff. Operate a computer and other office equipment. Frequently communicate with staff or guests with daily inquiries and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Working Conditions This position operates in both an indoor and outdoor environment where variable temperatures, light levels, crowds are moderate to very noisy sound levels are common. The employee is required to interact and communicate with adults and children frequently, and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers, as well as common cleaning supplies.
