Paramedic-Per Diem The City of Selma is a vibrant and steadily growing community in California’s Central Valley. This position is with the Selma Fire Department’s EMS Division and involves working on an ambulance. It is per diem employment with no set hours and no benefits. Position The successful person will provide the highest level of emergency care, treatment, and transport for all patients in an expedient and safe manner as specified by Fresno County EMS agency and Selma Fire Department policy and procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Administer Advanced Life Support services to sick and injured persons in the pre‑hospital and inter‑facility setting. Maintain, operate, and perform prescribed treatment at the site of an emergency, including accurate reporting of patient condition, interventions, and outcomes. Assess illness or injury, prioritize procedures, and provide cardiac monitoring. Initiate intravenous access and administer medications or fluids; perform advanced airway management. Assist in extricating trapped victims and administer initial treatment at emergency scenes. Transport patients to appropriate receiving and extended care facilities. Communicate with base stations and other medical personnel. Maintain professional appearance and attitude when representing the Selma Fire Department. Complete and maintain accurate paperwork and EMS equipment records. Participate in public education programs and the department’s training division as required. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Knowledge of local geography and relevant policies, procedures, and protocols. Ability to drive an ambulance safely and follow traffic laws. Skill in keeping accurate records, preparing reports, and following oral and written directions. Capability to maintain cooperative working relationships and effectively use all ambulance equipment. Desired Minimum Qualifications Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Requirements Current State of California Param shick License and Fresno County Paramedic Certificate (required prior to employment). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Life Support certification. Current California Ambulance Driver certificate and a valid Medical Examiner’s card. Possession of an appropriate California driver’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles. Mental and Physical Demands Requires a very high degree of concentration for extended periods; ability to analyze and interpret data under stress; utilization of both strength and agility for handling emergency medical situations, including moderate walking, lifting of moderate to heavy moving objects (100+ pounds), climbing, crawling, stooping, and bending; high hand‑eye coordination and the need to hear, taste, and smell.
